I am humbled to be your first Afro-Latina immigrant woman councilwoman. This campaign was never about me though, it was always about bringing power to the people. To give voices to those who felt left out.
#ItsTime
, and our work starts tomorrow.
Today following the Council Budget vote I received a call from a Latino male questioning my identity because in his mind I was too black for his taste. He didn't understand or appreciate why claiming my black roots and uplifting black lives matters to me. Here what I had to say.
BPD have been encouraging protesters to leave, yet MBTA has been suspending all forms of transportation this past hour. I had to personally go on two rescue missions to pick up young protesters who were stranded. How are we ensuring that
#AllMeansAll
make it home safe?

Canvassing with

THREAD:
The day after
@AyannaPressley
was elected to the House, I was so inspired & motivated to run for that open City Council seat, I announced my candidacy in a press interview.
Now, I have her old City Hall office & am chairing the two committees she sat on—one of which she created.
This is such an exciting and emotional moment for me and my family. To think that a girl who arrived in this city as an immigrant with her mom and litttle means can one day see herself carried into city hall by the many people who share the same journey as me.

Yoooooo I thought winning by 1 vote after a recount was as crazy as it could get in
#bospoli
- BUT seeing all these folks jumping into the mayoral race is definitely amusing! FYI- in 2021 I will be fighting to earn your vote to serve as a 2nd term At Large Councilor
#allmeansall
To think that years ago I celebrated becoming a naturalized citizen in the very building that I will be sworn in today as the first Latina immigrant City Councilor in Boston. Thanks to family, friends and all the people of Boston for making this day possible!

“‘At the direction of several members of the MBTA’s Fiscal and Management Control Board, effective today, June 5, the MBTA will no longer provide transportation for non-MBTA law enforcement personnel to or from public demonstrations on MBTA buses,’” spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.

@AyannaPressley
is on a mission to lead, and to radically reimagine a new world in which justice for all is more than just an echo of a reality that never was. And she has remained focused on that mission with laser sharp precision since being elected!
It’s real! Thanks people of Boston for proving that the American Dream can include a once immigrant child becoming elected into goverment office.

It is a shame that Massachusetts isn't on this list — we may be a blue state but we are NOT a progressive state. We need to get vaccinations for all school staff, who put their lives on the line every day to teach our kids, as soon as possible.

28 states plus DC are now allowing teachers to receive Covid-19 vaccines
States where all or some teachers are eligible:

I want to thank my team who have been here from the beginning all the way to today’s final count.

I look forward to working alongside you to uplift the voices of those we set out to serve. In solidarity.
I received a voicemail on January 17th that was all too familiar to myself and those in the immigrant community. I will not be intimidated by these words of hate, but rather use this as a way to speak up for others who have received this bullying.
After 19 months, a global pandemic, racial and civil unrest,we went from being a one vote winner to just 533 votes short of the

vote getter.
Incredibly grateful to

Incredibly grateful to

We have been co-conspirators for years since her time on the council-then she was the only one to attend our events even if she wasn't slated to speak.

In the wake of the horrific bills passed in TX & MS, Congress has the opportunity & obligation to ensure full reproductive rights for all.

When

I have heard from so many folks who are STILL undecided about their mayoral pick. This race will be hard fought and earned. As someone who only won by one vote, I urge folks to do research, talk to their peers but whatever you do -please don't sit this one out &
be sure to VOTE
Excited to annouce that last night I learned I was ONE of the 1,214 students accepted to Harvard University!! I will be pursuing a masters in public administration.

Being a single mom- as the sole breadwinner managing a single household income makes me feel double empowered. Single working parents often are overlooked. For those working hard to ensure your kids go further as you juggle to make it happen- I see & appreciate YOU! Keep it up!
Last year, I fought to reallocate 15% of the BPD budget to fund our COMMUNITIES. We cannot talk about police brutality without addressing the root causes of violence and that includes using our city resources to end poverty.

It's unjust to demonize our educators. Since COVID hit they have worked hard to meet this moment. We need to stop pitting parents against teachers and instead stand in solidarity alongside them, and get our educators vaccines ASAP.

Strong statement from a Charlie Baker advisor, who slams teachers unions that "continue to demand the Commonwealth take hundreds of thousands of vaccines away from the sickest, oldest and most vulnerable residents in Massachusetts" and divert them to members under 65
I love my job. I take being a PUBLIC servant serious. I go hard for what I believe in, I don't measure my words or calculate every political move. These times require leadership that is heart led and purposeful. If you don't feel the love- then the passion is pure performance!
Today we PASSED a Resolution Opposing State Receivership For Boston Public Schools. The voices of the people have made it clear that we need to fight back against any threat of receivership. It simply doesn’t work & we can’t risk doing further damage to our schools.
#bospoli
In Boston, young people have had no choice but to step up & be the leaders of today. However, their voice is still excluded from a critical civic action: voting.
That is why we created this Home Rule petition, crafted w/ youth advocates, to lower the municipal voting age to 16.
Don't invite us to the table then set terms and conditions.
Don't invite us to the table then give us a seat in the kitchen.

For those who refuse to believe racism is ALIVE in Boston- take a listen. People in positions of power across the entire city need to be audited to ensure we don't have down low racists in decision making spaces voting on our quality of life. Especially when they don't value us.
I did surface the relevant piece of tape in which Loconto seems to mock commenters' names after executive secretary Elizabeth Sullivan reads them out. (Sorry for the delay — lot of news last night.)
A warning that the tape may offend some listeners:
You and your team should be so proud of the historic campaign you ran. Together we showed how stepping into our power can inspire others to do the same and no longer be left out by the political process. I am humbled to represent you.

No matter how you look it- we shouldn't have 4 elections within 6 months during a global pandemic. Putting black/brown, elders, disabled residents and non-English speaking communities at risk is not in the best interest of the people. Our job is to put constituents over politics!
Today in an unexpected turn of events, I spoke to Mike–the unidentified caller from last Friday. Just a week ago, that voicemail was about hate & fear but today our phone call was about reconciliation.
