Wastewater contains a treasure trove of information for monitoring public health. In our new paper, we solve several lab and computational bottlenecks to achieve timely, accurate, and cost-effective SARS-CoV-2 surveillance using wastewater sequencing.

Agreed! It was an awesome few weeks working with @fieldomics and the amazing scientists over at @acegid to set up multi-pathogen wastewater surveillance. More to come on this soon!
Had a wonderful time working with @josh__levy and the fabulous students and scientists at @acegid over the past few weeks, implementing wastewater protocols for pathogen surveillance. đź’§ đź¦

I'm so proud of the program the NWSS team has built. Great to see it highlighted in the NCEZID 2022 Accomplishments report. #WastewaterSurveillance #PublicHealth
The National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) collects data from community wastewater systems that help detect COVID-19 variants such as Omicron and other diseases. Learn more from #NCEZIDin2022: https://t.co/fN3tZTubWY

have at long last and semi-involuntarily become a Housing Guy. every problem in america goes back to housing costs. the “decadence,” the cultural boredom, the sense that every “scene” is strip-mined before it can reach potential—housing, housing, housing.

In 2021 UCSD raised grad student and postoc housing by ~50%. This emboldened local landlords to do worse. The rent for our 2b went from 2400 in may 2020 to 3600 this year. Even with my spouses salary, 75% of my pay goes to housing and childcare. With second baby it will be 95%
