2. the agent will hopefully make a more precise edit since it now knows the functions and types that are involved in the file. Sometimes LLMs create all sorts of new and sloppy stuff despite existing functions and types.

the idea is that the ai agent using the file has 2 advantages when making edits to existing codebases:.1. dependencies are known and accounted for, the agent will go editing dependencies and won't forget because it's explicitly in the context as mermaid diagram and markdown text.

code dependency mcp server progress. A markdown file is generated with mermaid diagram, dependencies, functions and types for golang, js, ts and astro (the stack I use)

I think 1 and 5 can be done from Claude code with just prompting and I’m testing my own tools for 2, 3 and 4. Perhaps something line @AmpCode is doing all of them, haven’t had a chance to test yet.

5. Test driven development. Having your agent run tests against it’s own work leads to at least working solutions as well as the benefits of TDD.

4. Access to a smart architect. At the moment 4-sonnet/opus are gold standard for agentic ai model, they keep working and tool calling until the job is done. But they don’t have the best reasoning. I think o3/o3 pro do and having Claude phone a friend leads to a better solution.

3. Dependency graph of your code. Without one, it’s easy for an agent to edit one file, and miss the breaking change in another.

2. The right amount of context. Too much context like a whole codebase is distracting and too little leaves the LLM to fill in too many assumptions from it’s raining days.

1. Smaller tasks, like what taskmaster is doing, keeps the LLM focused. If you ask too much, it’ll maybe start ok, or maybe nothing useful at all.

Principles to get better context out of ai coding agents:. - smaller tasks.- just the right amount of context.- dependency graph of your code.- access to a second opinion or smarter planning/artchitect model like o3.- test driven development.
