What is the point of medical students doing a 24 hour shift? I’m mostly ignored anyways.
2 weeks left of 3rd year. A shelf exam. Step 2. And I can finally do what I want: EM 🚨
My mom’s residency rank list advice:
“Change your Hinge location to that city and see what the dating prospects are like.”
Yes mom, I understand. You want your single brown daughter to be married. 🤣
My attending who I’ve worked with for the past 1 month during my subI told me I’m functioning at the level of a beginner PGY2. 🥹🥹🥹
BRB. Going to go cry happy tears
As soon as my male attending heard my patient was hitting on me and overtly sexualizing me, he made sure I did not have to go back in the room.
I am loving my EM subI and the teamwork culture of EM. This is it 🥰
Finally gave my dad a tour of my medical school campus/hospital after 3.5 years. As an immigrant Punjabi man, he rarely expresses his emotions. But here we are, 8 months from match day, and all I saw was happiness on his face.
No words were needed tonight ❤️🥹
What are the most important things to look for in a residency program?
I am loving so many programs I’ve interviewed at and have no idea how to make a rank list when the time comes.
Appreciate all the different viewpoints everyone! Didn’t expect this tweet to resonate with so many people.
I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and have a career in medicine. And always get as involved as I can.
Going to go some coffee now!
As a 1st gen student, I’m amazed by physicians who are willing to get to know me, my passions, and connect me to their colleagues at various institutions— schools that I haven’t dared to dream about because I never saw someone like me get this far. MENTORSHIP is EVERYTHING 🤝🏽
In the spirit of submitting my

Hi I’m Jasmanpreet Kaur and am

. I can’t wait to connect with the EM Twitter community!
I saw someone taking a pic of my poster and by a quick glance at his name tag, I realized it was Dr. Stephen Hargarten.
His paper was the reason I did both of my projects.
So many fan girl moments over the last 3 days 😍
TY
@sonalirajan
for this amazing conference!!
Crawled out of my Step 2 study cave yesterday to be a guest speaker at the Dean’s Town Hall (x3 in the past 1 year) to discuss the
#FirearmEpidemic
and the inclusion of
#FirearmInjuryPrevention
in
#MedEd
. So grateful
@MSUMD
supports student and physician-led advocacy!
Looking forward to learning as much as I can at the National Research Conference for the Prevention of Firearm-Related Harms.
So grateful to be a MS4 and have the time to focus on my research interest!
@action_ap
I believe it’s also important to recognize that class of 2022 and 2023 were specifically affect by the pandemic, with classes being virtual etc. HUGE impact on learning.
Finally met
@LoisLeeMD
&
@meganranney
, received great career advice, and presented my project at the National Research Conference for the Prevention of Firearm Related Harms!
TY
@SAEMonline
for funding my project. And the conference leaders for the travel award!
Would an EM attending or resident (familiar with this year’s ERAS changes) be willing to read through my personal statement?
Hoping to get some feedback from people who don’t know me personally!
Thanks in advance :)

@meganranney
Got a text text from Michigan State University back in February telling me to “run, hide, and fight.” The reality of these words is terrifying.
Before I started med school, I had zero gray hairs. I’ve now stopped counting since it’s just a gift that keeps on giving.
Do they gray hairs mean I’m learning things and getting wiser? If so, I’ll take it.

Do I speak up but risk a retweet being misconstrued? How can I be an ally?
How do I worry for the safety of my brown communities but support friends from countries who are both hurting?
Humbled to represent MSUCHM and be part of conversations addressing racism and firearm violence as the community of Buffalo continues to heal 1 year later from a racially motivated mass shooting.

Told my bestie of 10+ years I can’t make it home to CA for her wedding because of step2 studying.
I know we make tons of sacrifices and miss out on special moments with our loved ones, but this one sucks.
Fortunately, my bff is amazing and supports my doctor dreams.
A huge thank you to
@DrRobDavidson
for connecting me with
@StorkBrian
! It’s been an honor to be part of these gun reform conversations and be a voice that represents the medical student perspective.
Thank you,
@StorkBrian
, for attending today's hearing and providing such cogent testimony in favor of SBs 76-86. I am incredibly proud to announce that today, the Senate Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety Committee voted to pass this 11-bill gun violence prevention package.
From working as a researcher for
@PECARNteam
at
@UCDavisEM
to applying for EM residency in a few short months…
A much needed reminder of how far I’ve come, especially in the midst of Step 2 studying 🤯
@zhwand_medical
Yes!! I’ve had a handful of classmates work with some outside test prep companies. Didn’t realize how common this was within med school.
Firearms are the leading cause of death in children and teens. Doctors should be trained on how to effectively risk-stratify and counsel on firearm safety, in addition to safe sex practices, seatbelts, heart healthy lifestyles, etc.
@MSUMD
@StorkBrian
@MonaHannaA
So excited to attend this conference as a MS4, present my posters, and share space with some of my role models for the next few days! 😍
I would love to connect and get dinner with conference attendees outside of lecture sessions!
Starting to get the Step 2 scaries when I think about how a test score can determine which residency programs are interested in getting to know me 🥺
That’s a lot of pressure.
Been in contact with Drs. Tayler and
@MonaHannaA
. What incredible role models as female physicians and researchers 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 looking forward to the day we can chat over a cup of coffee!
Firearm injuries and death in our youth are preventable. Pediatricians in Michigan testified in front of the MI Senate for gun reform. "I don't want gun violence survivor care to be part of our daily routine," shares Dr. Brittany Tayler, Alice Hamilton Scholar and MPH student.
@StorkBrian
@DrRobDavidson
Aww thank you! It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside the both of you. You guys serve as great role models for what physician advocacy looks like!
Accepted an offer for my first EM sub-I and presenting my research to a room full of medical education experts tomorrow!? This imposter syndrome is so real right now.
@StorkBrian
@UCSD_Urology
@KrisB_Brown
@JosephSakran
Thank you, Brian! Finally have a few days off from my EM subI. Can’t wait to touch base and collaborate with all the passionate individuals you are connecting me with!
I am so hopeful for the future, knowing we have such a strong network of physician advocates. 🟧
@DoctorJesseMD
There was a lot of work to be done in terms of
#DiversityInMedicine
prior to the SCOTUS decision. How are we going to hold medical school admission committees accountable to ensure this does not harm URiM students?
@UCDavisCVP
@shanib44
@AmandaAubel
Hi! Medical student here applying to EM this year and fierce advocate for gun violence prevention. I’ll be there at the conference. Can’t wait to hear more from all the experts in the field!
@MichaelGalvezMD
I would love to know the name of this coffee shop. I am back in the Fresno area for a week and need a good coffee shop recommendation for Step 2 studying!
@nfw2day
As a medical student and soon to be doctor who researches firearm violence and injury prevention, this is huge and very needed. We have lost a whole generation of physician researchers due to limited funding to study firearm violence!
@CorydonWW
So great meeting you!! Looking forward to running into you at UCLA ☺️ and showing you all the cool spots in LA. Congrats, again! And thank you for the awesome advice. 🚑
Today, I am publicly announcing I will be running for
@MichStateMedSoc
President in May. My platform starts with this.
“If each of us is not actively involved in advocating for our patients & our communities, then we are a medical society in name only.”
Saw a residency program release a statement addressing the senseless violence in the world and their account was shut down.
Why is physician advocacy not valued? Why are resident voices being shut down? Why are jobs threatened?
Since when was

#MedEd
problematic?

I was just at a research conference in Nashville hosted by Vanderbilt SOM and presented a research project on firearm violence education and injury prevention in medical education. I’m so heartbroken right now and feeling so defeated 💔
@Jacobs_Med_UB
@MSUMD
Thank you for hosting us MSU students! We had such great and important conversations. Looking forward to welcoming UB in February and continuing our advocacy!

Tried sending you a DM for an email, but I’m not a “verified subscriber.” Think you may need to follow me back for my DM to go though :)
@ee_ma_knee
I walked home after a long day of studying, didn’t see my car in my parking garage, and realized I drove to school that morning and left my car there.
You got this!
I had the privilege of meeting residents of the Buffalo community and learning about its history of racism and violence.

will be sharing her incredible work giving medical students and physicians an innovative tool in the form of an avatar - to practice talking with patients about guns.

This is a way for whiteness to stay in power— adding yet ANOTHER barrier for black and brown students to get an education and keeping us away from institutions that can open a world of opportunities.
