Given 56 years ago he ran 2:08:33, what time do you think he’d run today if he: had todays shoes, drank sufficient fluids including CHO during his races, wasn’t working full time, had a coach, massages etc. Make sure you check out my podcast episode with Derek + top researchers.

We all had a great chat. What a legend Derek Clayton is!! Marathon WR in 1967+1969 and 55 yrs later smashing it on the bike and playing golf 3 days a week. Looking fantastic! An inspiration! . Really great having David, Mark and Andre involved too! 👍. Thank alot all. Online soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions for Derek. I’m going to do it in order of the events in Derek’s life. So start with Derek and I and then add in David Costill (1969) and then add Mark Hargreaves (1991) and then Andre La Gerche (~2022). An extravaganza. Can’t wait!.

Then cardiologist Andre La Gerche retested him a couple of years ago. These results along with investigations of his amazing (but with significant atrial fibrillation etc) heart were then published with Andre, Mark, Dave and I among the authors. See link below. @ALaGerche. 3/.

Now online. Depending on training volume and other factors:. -Explosive resistance training (RT) may improve endurance performance/economy. -Endurance training may not affect hypertrophy but may affect strength and speed of contraction. -More research needed. Thanks @TLexercise

We had a really pleasant, informative chat. Thanks @TLexercise. Resistance training may actually improve endurance performance. Endurance exercise tends to not interfere with resistance exercise. But lots of nuance around these statements. It depends on many factors. Online soon.

Now online. There is evidence exercise can:. -reduce the likelihood of getting cancer. -improve the prognosis during cancer treatment. -improve effectiveness of chemotherapy . -reduce metastasis. -reduce the likely of getting cancer again. Remarkable!!. Thanks @LykkeSylow
