My essay for the box set of Tod Browning (THE MYSTIC, THE UNKNOWN, and the immortal FREAKS) is up at the @criterion website. I was delighted to go long on the great Browning and his carnie soul. https://t.co/GPImvX68GX

this is awful, and they should all do what i do: keep two massive ikea boxes full of surplus SCART cables and move them from flat to flat to flat to flat to flat to flat to flat to flat to flat to flat to flat over 20 years

When @SightSoundmag asked me last week to pen an obituary for Terence Davies, I was decimated. I also knew nothing I wrote in the space allotted could do justice to the films or to the human being. It was an honor to have lived with his cinema. https://t.co/S8j6NqXiTX

We screened SORCERER here in Bristol many moons ago, and I can still vividly recall the combination of whimpering and nervous laughter of the surly men sat in the row behind me throughout *that* bridge scene. RIP 👑

Happy 109th birthday to the very great and very dead horror author Robert Aickman. Here is my @letterboxd list of films that possess the same strange ambiguities, disturbing illogicalities, and psychological unpleasantness as his short stories:
