This time last year, Kildare emerged from a local lockdown triggered by Covid-19 outbreaks at meat factories. Tomorrow, we publish part 1 of a year-long investigation into the causes of continuing infections in the industry and the lenient enforcement regime it has enjoyed.

When my mother was a 19-yr old English undergrad she overheard girls making fun of her pregnant state. Her lecturer #BrendanKennelly found her crying and asked the baby's name she'd chosen (Hannah!) & told her how beautiful it was. His kindness will always be remembered by us.

Ever seen an apple pie cooked over an open fire? 🍏 Granny's #COVID19 home project was to build an open fire that could cook her mother's apple pie in a "bastible". It was scrumptious! More on @RTECountryWide 📻

1/2) A strange, depressing feeling to be entering into a new CAP cycle, & after all the rhetoric about encouraging farmers to support nature, we're still penalized for having left this large native woodland intact. The Dept of Ag has marked it as ineligible because it's "trees".

👇 This "scrub" is about 8% of our total farmland and is ineligible for any payment. We could have cleared/planted it years ago and been paid but we're lucky enough to live in a SAC and want to keep it that way. Hopefully next CAP recognises this as "productive" farming.

To anyone who ever thought that women 'couldn't', 'wouldn't' or 'shouldn't' drive tractors, I've spent a fair chunk of the day having to tell women that our first female tractor course is full. I'm honestly angry that it's taken this long to give them the opportunity to learn.

For nearly one hundred years our Aga has run on coal but this week we converted it to electric. It was expensive but the cost of doing nothing is more expensive. #climatechange is real and by 2025 my aim is to have figured out how to run the farm and house 100% off renewables.

I see a certain farm org has once again married me off. I applied to them for a divorce the last time but clearly someone was seriously stuck for nitrates again. Couldn't imagine a farm with just a woman on the deeds.

More than a few farmers might be envious to see @KevinoHanlon12 's cows out grazing this time of year! Driest farm I've seen in awhile. Kevin is joining the 62 organic dairy farmers in the country. Thanks to him and @TeagascOrganics for hosting a great farm walk 👏

Always sad when big trees that have made up part of the skyline of a farm fall. Grew up passing this giant Ash every day. #StormJocelyn

No one carves as well as her 👌 Lamb from the local butcher who knew exactly what farm it was born & reared. In my old age I'm getting fierce fussy about only eating meat sourced from Ireland. If we're proud of the food we produce we need to support it #HappyEaster #supportirish

1) This Ash tree on the farm is home to countless childhood memories, the place of family picnics and impromptu outdoor fry ups. The fact the tree is dying due to #AshDieback breaks my heart. They were memories I wanted to pass to the next generation. Given how deeply rooted...

I got a letter this week from a farmer in a nursing home paying €990/week in fees. The farmer cared for their mother and aunt into old age but had no kids which means they don't qualify for a Fair Deal "sucessor" & will keep paying €990/week. Intv coming up on @RTECountryWide

What does this elected representative think fertilizes oats or other crops in an organic system 🤔

@brianrushe81 Eventually it will move towards 8.3bn L of non-dairy milk. Great business case shown for it in your figures, bravo. As a bonus, no animal faeces is spread into public rivers by farming oats.

Still sinking in but blown away by the generosity and kindness of family, friends, neighbours and strangers who came to the farm bake sale and nature walk today. We raised over €1,000 in the three hours for charity ❤

Very important and brave piece by @HaroldKingston1 this week 👏 Still a lot of stigma around mental health but no farmer should feel like they have to suffer alone.

Signed up to a beekeeping course to get away from the horrors of the pandemic. What I've learnt 🐝 Wasps will rip the head off a bee to suck the honey out of its stomach 👾 Varroa mite will bite into bees and suck the blood out 🤬 Cranky bees need a new happy Queen or else...

Can't thank the staff at @StJohnsHospice and @ULHospitals enough. Xrays, consultant and physio all in one afternoon. The only thing really left to repair is my relationship with this fella.

mixed messaging to farmers. The debate around emissions the past week has been infuriating. A media narrative has been created stereotyping all farmers as narrow minded and inarticulate, and when given the opportunity, Ag representatives have fallen into instead of challenging
