Over the past few days we’ve released 24 white-tailed eagle chicks around the country. We work with our partner in Norway, local landowners and communities on this reintroduction programme. Watch behind the scenes as this years chicks get ready to take flight! . #ProtectNature

🌱Our newest reintroduction programme aims to bring back the Osprey to Ireland. Ospreys are birds of prey who feed on fish. While some Osprey are known to visit Ireland, they have been extinct as breeding birds for almost 200 years.

The post mortem is underway of the rare Sowerby's beaked whale that died in Wicklow over the weekend. We are hoping that this examination will help us understand more about the biology of these deep diving whales. Thanks to @IWDGnews and @agriculture_ie for their help.

NPWS appeals to all hunters not to hunt over the coming days in order to allow wild birds time to re-fuel and to recover from the cold snap. A temporary voluntary ban has been agreed with NARGC and ICSA, and NPWS will continue to monitor weather data from Met Éireann.

🦅Over the past couple of weeks NPWS staff have been busy caring for White-tailed Eagle chicks, tagging them and preparing them to be released back into the wild. Tánaiste @MichealMartinTD and @noonan_malcolm were in Killarney today to release the first four chicks this year.

Today is #WorldCurlewDay Ireland’s beloved #Curlew are back on their breeding grounds. Sadly only 100 or so pairs remain. Among them, this male and his mate for life. He spent his winter in Kerry and is back on his kingdom in Donegal. Lets hope they others rear chicks this year!

Fires on Npws land are under control. We estimate we’ve lost 500 acres of heather in our eastern nature reserves. Thanks to NPWS staff, the fire services and @irishaircorps in tackling fires. We ask the public to please not light fires in remote areas. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DO SO.
