Having Kawhi and having him potentially leave the city is like that beautiful girl or boy you met on your European travelling summer when you were 20, 21, 22. They left, you left, but it was the greatest summer of your life and it changed you forever.
Imagine you're a young girl who plays hockey. You watch the Leafs and there, in the executive box, is Hayley Wickenheiser looking down with the others. Man, it's just huge. It Really is.
you stopped basic income. you froze minimum wage. you put health and sex education back 20 years. you allowed expropriation of land w/out any due process. then you went and hid, refusing to speak to press. u accomplished nothing and put canada in reverse.
In 1986, we were busking outside the Bamboo when Borje Salming walked out. We stopped him, played ‘BOWendelC’ for him. He stood, listened and when we were done he took out a roll of bills from pocket. Looking at our empty case, then at us, he asked: ‘How much do u need?’ RIP King

1. I'll do a quick thread on our friend, Neil, although in tribute to him it should probably last 17 minutes and have relentless time shifts. We’ll see. I think he’d like the joke.
13. What a life, what a human, what a musician, what a mensch. He left music and he left the world on his own terms. He braved indifference and an indignant industry. He cut his own path, carved it. The next thunder roll you hear: that'll be him.
Very sad to hear about John Mann. He was a beautiful, mischievous dude with a deep gift as a performer. His eyes held a long tunnel of light, and he shared it generously with all who came in his orbit. Canada is lesser and Venice has sunk.

I sincerely believe that if he were around, he’s be delivering the paper. He fiercely encouraged me in whatever I did. I owe him so much. So much. I love him and miss him. Be wild in his memory. Dont let yourself stop yourself
Still wrapping my head around the existentialism of a team employee administering the most humiliating loss in history on the Leafs. It’s like the hockey Gods discovered a whole new room in their lair of dark magic
Just in from a walk. Honestly, it disgusts me how some people are flouting social distancing. Also on Bloor near Ossington, cafes + shops are busy, allowing take-out yet still letting people inside. Cue the Emergency Act. Can’t see how it won’t happen any other way.
another take: after the fucking awful trauma of last week, that DoFug brought this shitstorm forth in a grieving city is the most tone deaf political act in maybe the history of Toronto. he is a blinkered bull with lead for feet
Very few words for the passing of Dallas Good. Visionary musician and our Jesus of cool. Soft touches all around. Wax maniac. Shimmering in the snowy light. Never forgotten.
Our dad passed away 2day at 88. He was a great guy, and we'll miss him dearly. It was his idea 2 put a roof on Bayview Village back in 70s and his group was one of 1st to build strip malls in Toronto, so the likes of u would have a place to hang out. Here's proof. Love to all.
Bobby Orr (like Gretzky) is one of the most generous superstars Ive ever met. Those experiences don’t change. But helping a fascist potentially take down the country— and a world— he, ostensibly, loves, will leave blood on those same hands that changed hockey forever.
1. According to Vin Scully during the first time the Blue Jays ever appeared on Monday Night Baseball-- an important benchmark for the team-- Tony Fernandez's glove was like 'a bowl of silk.'

He would have been as happy as anyone that Leafs got out of the 1st round. What a wild and curious life. And one of the world’s great voices and songwriters. Cheated death more times than was normal. Rheos loved playing his music. Denim warrior. Sensitive, tough, loyal. Rest now
Brazil's new president elect, Jair Bolsonaro, is a right-winger who leans towards more open markets. This could mean fresh opportunities for Canadian companies looking to invest in the resource-rich country.
so typical of so much sports media in Toronto to profile this post season as a 'collapse' and unfulfilled promise. This young team also fought off elimination twice, pushed the best team in the East to Game 7, and set point records in season. Nothing endemic about what happened.

I have runs of days where all I dream about is Gord. 3rd in a row last night, walking through the endless wings of a theatre somewhere. We joked-- 'Why are we always walking through theatres but never finding the stage?' Then he told me he'd written a new song about Bobby Orr.
Did you know our plan for the West Island will create:
🌳 12- acre public park
⛱️ A new beach
🧺 Gathering spaces
🌊 Bigger shoreline
All of this will be free and publicly accessible—so people can enjoy the water year-round.
Anthony Bourdain went into the world to know the world-- not suspicious yet embracing of others-- which is a lesson we should all receive from him lest his legacy endure in vain. RIP to a great curious mind.
Hey. We're releasing the first new

track in 16 years today. Sometime around 1 pm I think. It has 3 parts and hoping it terrifies and makes you weep, not in an entirely bad way. Take 4 minutes out of your day, if you can spare it. "Here Come the Wolves."
@SixShooterR
2. I first talked to Neil in 1991 (i think) on the phone. He was at Chateau Frontenac and he called in for an interview. After I asked him what he bands he was listening to he said, ‘Rheostatics, have you heard of them?’ I said, ‘Um, I’m in them.’
Got a visit from cousin Covid. Scientists and doctors are the best. Thank God for vaccines eh. I think I got it playing shinny but not sure. Love to all.
I've never had a best seller until now: Midnight Light debuts at number 10, according to my very excited publisher. Thanks to Sharon Klein for all the hard work. I may have a beer tonight because our daughter is speaking at her highschool convocation too. Good times.

An ocean of love to the beautiful guys in

Another reason you don’t want Covid: it attacks your anxiety. Why aren’t I getting better faster? Why did I get a harsher dose than my neighbour? Will I ever not feel like this? Emotions are thin, body unco-operative. Think of this when you think of sick friends.

I'm disturbed & saddened by what we are seeing today in Ottawa. This situation was created by the PM & his desire to divide Canadians. It’s time for MPs to return to the House tomorrow to stop the overreach by this government & restore unity, wholeness & hope back to our nation.
RIP Chief George. He only ever had smiles and jokes for me at Leaf events. He still spent summers off the grid up north, even in his 80s. A great guy w a great attitude. Let’s honour his sprit by treating each other w kindness, and let’s honour our Indigenous friends by listening

Reimer has been brainwashed. There’s nothing in the second (new) testament about homosexuality. And in the orig Leviticus, it permitted gay sex, which was common in ancient world. Some scholar added the hateful bit. Jesus was about love. Who’s your Messiah now, James?
James Reimer, Logan Couture and David Quinn all spoke with the media. Here is Reimer's official statement about declining to wear a Pride jersey tonight ...
My 13th book is out today. It's called 'Midnight Light' I hope you like it. It's funny and sad and suspenseful because the North is funny and sad and suspenseful. Anyhow, you can buy it in stores today. It took me 5 years to write. Love to all.
People who defend Trumpians like Orr and say, "It's a democracy, everyone's entitled to free speech" forget that their leader has done everything possible to wrench democracy away, and to mute and vilify anyone-- especially journalists-- who contradict him.
Why in God’s name, in our cutback and villified world of

We salute the military at every Leaf game. We have an armed forces night. We have an outdoor game that salutes the Navy. Hockey should be about recognizing the value of all of us, not simply those who serve, and especially those who work selflessly for peace

Time to give a voice to people who believe in the potential for hockey’s beautiful inclusivity and warmth and love. I’ve seen it around the world and in my neighbourhood. Let the game shine for all. Let it turn this page.
BREAKING: Ontario Place For All's court challenge that could impact the Ford government's & Therme's Ontario Place redevelopment lives.

WMF is dismayed at a proposal to demolish the urban forest of Canada’s Ontario Place. In 2020, we named this Toronto landmark to the World Monuments Watch out of a belief that it was a modernist icon deserving of protection. Read our statement:
