They say courage is contagious. So is resentment, anger, and bitterness. Choose your crowd wisely.

This is unequivocally the most astounding capture of the atmosphere that I have ever seen. If you are a younger meteorologist, watch this then attempt to understand it through study. All hurricanes have a center, not all hurricanes attain cyclostrophic balance and produce one
Fifth and final pass through Hurricane Melissa for our crew today. Just after noon entering from the NW corner exiting SE.

Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci flew into the eye of Hurricane Melissa, the Category 5 storm that is projected to hit Jamaica. “It was equal parts scientifically stunning and horrifying from a humanitarian standpoint,” he wrote, flying in one of two groups of hurricane hunters.

Just landed after an absolutely insane flight with @NOAA_HurrHunter into #Melissa just before landfall in #Jamaica. I was processing the dropsonde data before it went out. When I saw the 113 m/s (219 knots) just above the surface I couldn't believe it. My display only goes to 100

As @geoffreyyork notes, "much of the evidence was contained in social-media videos posted online by the perpetrators themselves"👇 It won't save lives, but this evidence is being collected, verified & preserved. It will be used one day to hold perpetrators to account. #Darfur

It's hard to be sufficiently cynical about this stuff. 1. Rubio accuses UAE of supporting "genocide" in Sudan 2. UAE announces it'll put $2b into Trump's crypto scheme 3. Days later, Trump bypasses Congress to approve $1 billion in weapons for the Emirates
Why has UAE surpassed China as the largest investor in Africa? Great NYT profile by @declanwalsh and @tariqpanja of Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, VP of UAE, owner of Man City, and financier of civil wars in Sudan and Ethiopia.

Perhaps you can persuade them to fly over Sudan and drop food for the civilians starving as a direct result of the UAE's aiding, abetting, and funding of that genocidal war?
Joining the UAE Air Force on a massive humanitarian mission to carry out food airdrops over Gaza in the next few days - will share updates from the ground in Jordan and skies above Gaza. Grateful to all nations, and especially the Emirates, for feeding desperate Gazans 🙏✈️🇦🇪🕊

After reading this, read about what the RSF is doing in the Sudanese city of El Fasher. Atrocities are ongoing there as we speak as the RSF breaks a monthslong siege and takes the city One observer compared it to the initial days of the Rwanda 1994 genocide

I know this isn’t helpful in this moment, but I feel helpless and angry that we’re watching a UAE sponsored RSF massacre of civilians in El Fashir while the whole world is choosing to abandon them. It makes me sick!

The atrocities enabled and funded by the UAE keep getting worse:

You would think his part in spinning lies in an effort to turn the Quebec Mosque massacre into a further attack on the Muslim community in Quebec would have sidelined him from any/all future conversation, but here we are. #cdnpoli
Click through the thread embedded here for more, but given today's announcement I will reiterate: No credible person, politician, or group of people consider the so-called "Imam of Peace" or his operation/organization to be remotely legitimate.

Here are a few other very respectable individuals he has teamed up with. He's an attention/influence-seeker who deals in conspiracies, lies, and hate—and that's being generous. Surely everyone knows who Tate is. For those unfamiliar with Biggs, see: https://t.co/1UGomsclpi
Joe Biggs, the Proud Boys' top propagandist, is set to be sentenced this morning after his Jan. 6 seditious conspiracy conviction in May. On Nov. 10, 2020, he published a since-deleted blog on his site, The Biggs Report, calling for civil war. From my book on the Proud Boys:

I don't know who still needs to hear this, but this fellow is a notorious extremist, fraud, and conspiracy theorist, also a frequent partner and ally of literal neo-Nazis and white supremacists, and anyone who chooses to associate with him is credible on precisely nothing.

Re-upping this book recommendation because I believe the parallels in rhetoric (among other things) between the two administrations ought to be much more widely known and appreciated/understood.
An incredible book—one of the best of all the books I've read this year—is 'Some People Need Killing: A Memoir of Murder in My Country,' by journalist Patricia Evangelista. Certainly relevant at the moment, but worth reading regardless.

Cannot emphasize enough how commonplace these NDAs are now under Hegseth, officials have to sign them for the most highly classified work down to the most mundane controlled unclassified material. From our Sept story: https://t.co/Uu701kxVKW
Scoop! U.S. military officials involved with President Donald Trump's expanding operations in Latin America have been asked to sign non-disclosure agreements. Story moving now

The killing of alleged drug dealers in international waters is especially crazy and bad because we don't execute drug dealers in the US! That's not the penalty for this crime, even with full due process and a conviction.
There is no provision in the Constitution, or the law, that allows the president to "just kill people" he thinks are criminals.
