When a student struggles in class from ADHD, don’t take away recess as a consequence for disruptive behavior. This is counterintuitive and only punishes the teacher in the end. If anything, the most squirmy #kids need extra recess. #thatonekid #teachers

Recess and play are SEL. They help decrease aggressive and off task behavior as well as decease anxiety and depression . They increase self regulation of emotions and improve academic performance! Let them play!

The phrase “behavior problem” drives me crazy. There is no such thing as a behavior problem child in school. Behaviors are not the problem they are always solutions kids pick to their problems. Focus on the underlying cause for real results. #thatonekid

Subjects that should be taught in school: active communication, conflict resolution, attachment theory, emotional regulation, nervous system awareness, and how to create healthy relationship dynamics. Education needs a paradigm shift.

That positive phone call home to caregivers does wonders. Disrupt the predictable pattern. Make it so our families don’t associate schools calls with negativity and harm. Let us know that our babies are seen and valued. Make that call!

Kids are not data points. When we constantly hold meetings to discuss data & make decisions based on data alone, we make school less fun for students & #teachers. It’s easy to become disengaged when your 8yrs old & not having fun! #thatonekid

I LOVE this graphic about emotional regulation and the brain. This breaks it down perfectly.
