Greeting students at the door is a simple way to build connection and set the right tone for your classroom. Offer a handshake, hug (age appropriate) or compliment at the door! Simple, but effective!.#thatonekid #classroommanagement.

The audience always plays a role in power struggles. Privacy is best when dealing with challenging kids who like to argue. Wait until you are able to discuss the matter in private.

Do you kick out the kid or the content? Everyday teachers have to make a choice of kicking out the content to deal with a kid or kicking out the kid because they are in the way of the content. As a special ed teacher, I always choose the student over the content. I didn't go.

I am not in favor of using behavior charts. Student behavior is not a classroom decoration. If you must have one, don't display it publicly. Am I wrong?.#thatonekid #classroommanagement.

I like to use the word "expectations" instead of "rules" in my classroom. Maybe because rules are made to be broken. Expectations are:.-specific & measurable.-tell exactly what a student should do.-tie directly to a classroom value.-teacher and class created.-reflect action.
