Repurposing seems like an evergreen siren- haven’t seen evidence of success anywhere proportional to the number of times/companies that have pitched it. Where it makes the most sense is in rare disease or when time is of utmost value.
There is surprisingly little data on how well drug repurposing actually works. Given the recent influx of AI-powered repurposing companies, I'd think someone would have a more-or-less consistent number for the success rate, but the estimates range from 30 % to 75 % for the same.

Hot take - when scientists allow “protein folding has been solved” into the zeitgeist and then award a Nobel, there might be some voices somewhere who are like wellllllllll then…. .
CASP is getting cut by NIH. 😢. (Anyone with extra funds wanna help support perhaps the most important competition of the century?).

The rest of the world won’t stay still. On the contrary, it is a great time for them to pounce on investments, talent, and progress while we are licking our own wounds.
While all eyes have been on the U.S.’s dramatic science policy shifts, the rest of the world hasn’t stood still. My round-up of U.K. investments in AI for Science—including OpenBind, new supercomputers, and self-driving labs—shows a distinct strategic trajectory
