Unlike graphic design, product design is largely measurable, partially commoditized, and critical to business performance. This is part of the reason why product designers are being paid more than graphic designers, and also why there are fewer research-y topics in PD.
Tech product design as a field feels like an intellectual desert these days. No discourse, no research, no dreams. It's just eerily quiet. If I had started my career today, I most likely would have done something else.

Every business is laborious work on their way to success. If it’s not “too hard”, might instead question whether there’s a true moat.
Most businesses don't fail within the first year. Most fail within the first 5 minutes. "that will never work, this is too hard, I don't know what to do next". If we can solve that first 5 mins, there will be 100x more new business owners.
