The gpt-oss 20b version runs fine on my 4 year old MacBook Pro, takes up about 13GB. macai is a MacOS desktop app so you can Cmd-tab to it. You'll miss ChatGPT's memories, tools, canvas, etc., but at having an LLM anywhere will feel great.

I run the model on Ollama, which you can get here: You can get macai here: (click "latest universal binary"). Then you run .$ ollama pull gpt-oss:20b.$ ollama serve. In macai settings, "Add new", select Ollama, then "Test".

Very useful Cursor feature: "Completion sound." It plays a sound when the AI coding agent is done. In Cursor you can find this under Cursor settings > Chat > Completion Sound. Windsurf also has this, It's in Windsurf Settings > Enable Sounds for Cascade.
