2008: RNA-seq works. PMID: 18516045. Still remember when @molsysbio showed this plot to us in the first compbio class I took #singleplot

Surprised that Rosalind Franklin’s famous Photo 51 hasn’t been nominated as a #singleplot. Experimental proof that DNA is indeed a double helix.

Can't miss this one! Another great example of #singleplot - the era of #CRISPR started from here. DOI: 10.1126/science.1225829

@leslievosshall @kkariko In the RNA theme, this one is a fave from Cech, Zaug and Grabowski 1981. (Fig 2: PMID 6101203) "Native" extract hit with SDS-phenol extractions, formamide sucrose gradient and protease treatment and the RNA said "So what?" and spliced anyway . bc it's a #ribozyme #singleplot

@LostInTranscrip @leslievosshall @RELenski Nope. It was a gradual realization that required me to move from biology into mathematical modeling into the philosophy of science. It took decades, and there isn't a #singleplot to express these insights, although Rosen's diagram below was pretty crucial along the way.

Sometimes a scientific revolution can be triggered by a #singleplot in a paper. Often it is just the description of a phenomenon. Without mechanism. But understanding it will shift the way we see and think about the world. #diauxie #Monod #itisallaboutnutrients

Often a major scientific discovery can be boiled down to a #singleplot in a paper. Mullis & Faloona describe "polymerase-catalyzed chain reaction". We did this paper in 1st year journal club @RockefellerUniv and concluded that nobody would ever use this method #PCR.PMID: 3431465

Maybe this #singleplot has been posted but I didn’t see it yet: the “most beautiful experiment”, Meselson and Stahl’s demonstration of semi-conservative DNA replication…
Hi Tweeps,.I'm having fun boiling down scientific discoveries into a single plot. Someone asked if I can thread them, but instead I am hash-tagging them so you all can find them."Often a major scientific discovery can be boiled down to a #singleplot in a paper.".

#singleplot is a great initiative from @leslievosshall and here's my favourite. The discovery of LTP in 1966 by Terje Lømo. "an example of a plastic change in a neuronal chain (. ) which may last for hours" Notice decreased latency, implying increased synaptic efficiency

this is mind-blowing #singleplot.
Sometimes boiling down scientific discoveries into a #singleplot takes time!.This wonderful plot of the inverse relationship between mutation rate and genome size summarises decades of work, and can be traced back to predictions made 38 years previously (citations below)
