One area the #RentersRightsBill still needs to fix is unfair guarantor requirements. As Georgia's story on @BBCr4today shows, these can block access to housing. Thanks @alexsobel for raising this issue - if a renter can afford the rent, they shouldn't need a guarantor.

When the #rentersrightsbill passes tenants will be able to appeal above-market rent rises at a tribunal. Opponents of the bill are claiming tenants will challenge every rent rise. We think that's unlikely. But a cap on rent rises would be a simpler way of protecting renters.

The #rentersrightsbill will end fixed term tenancies. And because section 21 evictions are also being abolished, tenancies will be secure for renters AND open-ended. So no more moving home every year - but tenants will still have the flexibility to leave when they want.
