Also the amount of fixed capital required. Which for PL is close to zilch. Is that our problem?

A more sophisticated analysis could also incorporate the funding of the professors in question, the number of students available to them and the productivity of those students, et cetera... so long as it makes PL look good

The value of a CONF paper is the number of (average professor)-years required to produce the paper in CONF. The value of some quantity of CONF papers in exchange for ICLR papers is determined by the ratio (CONF paper) / (ICLR paper)

If you read the methodology section, this is kinda an application of classical labor theory of value :)
Do you know that a system paper might be worth 3 AI papers in computer science according to some dubious metric? I launched an interactive website to measure the relative effort spent on one top-tier paper in each computer science field. https://t.co/jPU72x5ojD

Was a pleasure to present our logical relation for concurrent termination at Boston University POPV on Tuesday :)

I am at LICS in Tallinn. Would like to talk to people about semantics for concurrency and randomness. And eat vegan food. Cheers

I'd like to see an approximating model which is still indexed by interesting objects instead of numbers. There's no reason the exact models should look that different from the approximating ones, I guess.

These exact models embed into step-indexed models, but when you do that you pass from induction on trees (an interesting object) to induction on tree height (a number).

For instance, if you use linearly typed references, your heaps are tree shaped. So you can define your model by induction on trees. Any type system that rules out cycles (or cycles involving closures) enjoys this kind of "exact" model.

Step-indexing circumvents some issues that come up when you store closures on the heap. If you can control the structure of the heap, it's often possible to give regular old set-theoretic models.

My family in Rafah are receiving threatening phone calls to evacuate. They already evacuated nine times and they live in a tent!

interesting how this photo @Northeastern is using to celebrate its recent grads only includes two of the three flags this student was waving

Princeton has arrested and evicted one third of its graduating African American studies majors. It has also locked the doors of Toni Morrison Hall, where the department is housed and which is right next to the encampment. Super racist stuff guys!

FYI: NYPD official Rebecca Weiner, who cited âoutside agitatorsâ as a reason for NYPD raids but offered no transparency is a Columbia adjunct. The unit she leads came under fire in the early 2010s for spying on Muslim New Yorkers. I know because I sued that unit for spying on me.
Congratulations to SIPA Adjunct Professor Rebecca Weiner, who was recently appointed as Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism of the NYPD by @NYPDPC Edward Caban. https://t.co/DqvBZIaFTJ

My husband, Prof. Steve Tamari, is out of the hospital. He will need surgery on his hand, and he is in pain from nine broken ribs. We are asking for time to rest and heal. We will not be taking media interviews at this time. Here is Steve's statement and ways you can support.

LOS ANGELES (AP) â At least 2,000 people have been arrested at pro-Palestinian protests on US campuses since April 18, AP tally shows.

Opinion | It's hard to be a fan of these university encampments. If I wanted to stop the war in Gaza â which, to be clear, I don't â I would protest in a more effective, undisclosed other way.

NEW: Professors at @Northeastern have begun circulating a letter denouncing the schoolâs response to student protests â including âthe false justification for arrests,â âharmful weaponizing of anti-Semitismâ and âtactics of intimidationâ â and calling for charges to be dropped.
