Maybe I need a new intro thing. Disabled writer who grew halfway up in New York. Where I'm from depends on the day. Drafting a memoir about all that. Love @penquan23 and our kid. Fuelled by coffee, notebooks, and nostalgia. My accent is weird. Hi.

This is so true. Whether it’s wheelchair services or district nurses, their insistence it’s perfectly fine to turn up unannounced in the middle of the working day is classic ableism in action. If in doubt, just make up an important meeting to really make their mouth’s drop.

Out of the blue call from wheelchair services "I'm coming to fix your powerchair, I'll be there in 7 minutes" Erm, no you will not. I have a full diary & need reasonable notice (the repair is cosmetic). Why are these services always so baffled that disabled people have a life?!

As a book editor, I truly believe revisions are where the magic happens and the story blossoms. But many authors get overwhelmed by the process. If revisions give you the heebie-jeebies, here are 3 methods you can use to get started (an #amediting 🧵):

Memoir writing is complex, nuanced, demanding. It’s some of the hardest work a writer can do. For interviews with memoirists & writing teachers, & memoir-writing support there are now 45 episodes of Let’s Talk Memoir. 🧡 Wherever you listen to podcasts. 🎉🎧

I’ve watched the #RosieJones doc without having coffee first. It made my cry within minutes. However. The point is that ableism sucks, disabled people are humans and nobody is a slur.

From Rosie Jones doc to the ME research, I know there’s many issues right now that some in the disabled community feel passionately about. There’s still few staff disabled journalists so pitching as a freelancer can be a vital way to get voices heard. So here’s a few tips: 1/6

I interviewed @josierones ahead of her new documentary. We spoke about the backlash, the toll of ableist abuse, and why she’s ready to get angry.

Some thoughts on the pending C4 documentary about online hate crime disabled people face. TW: ableist language. There's a bit of a pile on directed at one person going on, and I wanted to add a different perspective. This has to do with the title, but specifically the reaction

Surely this picture is photoshopped, @BootsUK? If it’s real then there’s people who will have a whole lot to say about this…! No one is society is “less” anything. Disabled people are equal! Stop messing around with language. DISABLED PARKING.

Podcast people: Do you listen to any shows that are decidedly NOT about work, but are more of a parasocial friendship type of deal? As in, you like being a fly on the wall for the conversations because it feels like getting after-work beers (or whatever) with them?
