@TimothyAMeyer This paper introduces a new dataset tracking valuation gains on the U.S. foreign asset position across countries and derives a sufficient statistic that translates those gains into welfare effects.

We have released new yearly measures of local GDP at the 1, 0.5, and 0.25 degree level. They are calculated using remote sensing data and a random forest model. All the data, documentation, and tests can be mapped and downloaded here:

Vielleicht der schwierigste Moment in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik, zur inneren Strukturkrise kommen nun massive außenwirtschaftliche und sicherheitspolitische Herausforderungen, auf die wir nicht vorbereitet sind (trotz der vielen Mahnungen). Wir müssen jetzt umschalten.1/n

Live-tweeting @karthik_econ's presentation on state capacity at NEUDC. Simple story of India's economy: - Top 10% drives demand and growth - Next 30-40% in service sector jobs supporting the top 10% - remaining 50% left out, supported by welfare programs Seems suboptimal 1/n

I will always remember how serious Jonathan took every student as a researcher & scholar. It showed in the pride, enthusiasm, and self confidence with which PSU trade students confronted each visitor, and in their subsequent careers. Lucky we had a conference to honor J in '22:
