If you are interested in the semiconductor Chips War, here is an interesting JMP to read.
@Weiting_Miao studies how industrial policies affect technology competition and local supply resilience under trade disruption risks, using a structural model and semiconductor foundry data to assess the impact of the US CHIPS Act. Website: https://t.co/Q8TzATU5st

I learned a lot working on this paper. Admin tax data and experimentally allocated public infrastructure allowed us to measure small differences between these lines. Yet there is so much more to learn about the level and slope in this graph!
We confirm that Hábitat improved infrastructure, particularly piped water and sewerage, and increased program recall by residents. Despite large benefits/recognition, we find no changes in tax compliance using administrative tax data. We can rule out even small effects. 4/

Can the provision of public goods increase tax compliance? In a new working paper with @AnneBrockmeyer & @J_C_Suarez, we study a large public investment experiment and find that local public infrastructure does not improve property tax compliance in Mexico City. 1/

10 years ago my PhD advisors (+&others I admire) co-authored a symposium in the Journal of Economic Perspectives on #tax & #development. Their work was a big source of inspiration for me. Fast forward and we now have a similar JEP sympo on the new knowledge frontier in #Tax4Dev.
Is the value-added tax a "good" tax? Should countries be using it? Our new @AEAjournals paper with @AnneBrockmeyer @giulia_mascagni @mazharwaxim @miguel_almunia says YES, BUT... 👇 https://t.co/yE0rWmcyyG
