I just had the privilege of joining Steve Wolf on The Fire Break Podcast. We discussed a range of topics related to modeling wildfires and how those models can help individuals and financial organizations manage their risk to wildfires (and other perils). https://t.co/8V116tjZr1

Always nice to hear that work I’ve done in the past is still relevant and being read and used in current research. Thanks @nplareau 🙏
One of my favorite parts of science is connecting real-world observations to idealized simulations. Here, radar data from the #ParkFire reveal a striking counter-rotating vortex pair (CVP) in the plume—red shows cyclonic, blue anticyclonic vorticity—mirroring features simulated

Everyone needs to read this awesome thread on Florida wildfires (one of my favorite topics 😏). Gabriel knows what he’s talking about, folks. Watch his movie if you haven’t already.
A surprising thread on Florida wildfires: Many are stunned by the line in our film: "Florida proactively burns more in one year than California has burned in the last 50 years". People always ask 2 big questions: -California is *that* derelict? -Florida has wildfires?

And so we're never going back to Los Angeles If even for a day Ask us where we'd rather be and we'll say anywhere It's why we hate LA It's the city with no time to waste And we just can't stay So it's goodbye CalifornIA For a better place @Hotshot_Movie

College campuses in the Fall are a special vibe. Even if they don’t have a football team.

🔥The more Paladin grew in maturity, the more we saw clarity around user problem focus. Our product design followed that signal in turn. 🧐When you start working on a problem, you see broadly something that isn’t working. However, a company arises when you keep asking why until

Very cool new technology from @fire_physics
Everyday I wake up giddy knowing we’re building the platform that can turn the tide on the wildfire crisis. Paladin is the first heads up display for wildland firefighters, helping them save towns from burning. 🔥 #wildfire #paladinworks @paladinworks

I stole a line from @Hotshot_Movie. What can burn will burn. Arsonists matter. Put them in jail. But fuels are the only thing we can control that drive the outcome. Fix the gardens. Fix the houses. Manage fuels within ember cast of the interface. https://t.co/RBC260tJ0Y?

It seemed that last year’s wildfire in Los Angeles had been extinguished safely after two days. But it had just gone underground.

I watched Björn a lot back in the day and always believed he was one of the better athletes of his era in tennis. @OpenCourt any thoughts? Gretzky fast or Borg slow? Yes, he had retired by this point, but pretty recently, he was only 26 and had won 2 majors the previous year.
Not baseball, but Wayne Gretzky once destroyed Pele, Bjorn Borg and Sugar Ray Leonard in a race. And I mean DESTROYED.

Thoughtful comments on wildfire and climate change from Gabriel, with which I mostly agree.
Nobody pushes back on the climate change-wildfire narrative as much as I do, but it's intellectually dishonest for people to say that an arson event invalidates what the climate change folks are saying. I've said it repeatedly...we can't change the weather, we can only get rid of

Rich speaks the truth!
Totally agree. Climate change, although a legit factor in wildfires, is not the primary issue. It just exacerbates the environmental conditions. Main issue is forest management and building codes. Do not ignore climate change, but don’t make it your main argument for blame.

Michele Steinberg, Wildfire Division Director of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) tells you to clear your brush and clean your gutters!!! Take responsibility for your own property! https://t.co/HOnjHN4S9Y

Every year, wildfires burn millions of acres across the United States, threatening lives, property, and entire communities. Homeowners play a critical role in reducing the risk long before a wildfire...

From 1978… Fire dependent ecosystems something something something… 🤷♂️
"Fire is like an earthquake: It's not a matter of IF; It's a matter of WHEN. Clear the weeds, make your home fire resistant, enclose the eaves and always have it in the back of your mind that there may be a fire." -Ken Lavoie, LACoFD Oct 27, 1978

Please read this carefully and take it to heart. Winds approaching 40 mph can and do absolutely result in extreme fire behavior.
38MPH winds on your fire is a BAD day. 38MPH is not 100MPH 38MPH is not “hurricane force” 38MPH is not unprecedented. 38MPH on your fire is still a BAD day. Responsible adults can hold all the truths in mind, simultaneously.

One of my absolute favorite movies that I’m always surprised and dismayed that so few people have seen. Criminally underrated masterpiece.
