I agree with this point. That's why we developed XCaMPs, which showed faster, larger SNR, linear to spikes than GCaMP6. But, maybe faster GECIs is still desire.
An important analysis of the spike to Ca transient (actually to GECI fluorescence) transform and methods to deal with its nonlinear nature. From @ShaulDr & co.

@AndrewHires @gottapatchemall 2-3 uW 385 nm is enough to detect FP signal because XCaMP-B is bright. Indeed, I haven't seen any significant tissue damage so that I was able to record XCaMP-B signal for six months.
