About 150 young people who met through Cumbria Young Farmers coming together at the weekend on our farm- after the announcement that the government is stopping funding to Young Farmers clubs. These clubs help people who live in isolated areas socialise and learn new skills. 🤷♀️

To sow, or not to sow… that is the question! Is there moisture in the soil? (no) Is there rain in the forecast? (No?!) Will it grow in the bag? (No) So do we drill our Oilseed rape now or wait? I’m hedging my bets & putting 1/3 in now and praying we catch a thunderstorm

I hope @labour are proud of their misinformed MPs that are driving Farmers to take their own lives . Get the facts right your just killing family farms so land investors can profit and fund Labour Party ! @Jes_Squirrell @agricontract @ProagriLtd @NoFarmsNoFoods @NFFNUK
Unbelievable to hear a Labour MP claim farmers have 'unearned wealth'. She couldn’t be more out of touch. Labour just don’t care about our great British farmers - whose lives are being made a misery by their cruel Family Farm Tax. #NoFarmersNoFood

Rather begs the question as to what @SteveReedMP thinks is to be gained from levying a massive tax liability on businesses which haven’t been profitable for a ‘very long time’.
🗣️ Speaking at Oxford Farming Conference, @SteveReedMP said farming has been unprofitable for a 'very long time', but the Government's farming roadmap will enable the sector to become profitable again. 📈 READ MORE 🔗 https://t.co/4UUHsgDIbJ

The really mad thing about the politics of farming, environment and food is that as you get nearer the pinnacle you meet people that seem to have power to change it But they tell you that they have NO power to change it - that everything is decided by the Treasury

Made front page after yesterday’s #tractorrun #york But this headline should send shivers down everybody’s spine no matter which side of the #FamilyFarmTax debate you are on. A policy with such devastating unintended consequences HAS to be revised @RachelReevesMP @SteveReedMP

A sea of tractors!🇬🇧 Notice was given, the roads were closed and traffic diverted for this peaceful protest, everyone involved did a brilliant job getting there message across. Hopefully the government was listening.

And the absolute F cheek of pretending that paying for better farming is somehow in competition with paying for nurses and the NHS is ridiculous Nurses and good farmers are BOTH investments in public health

Our lack of care for farming and food systems in the U.K. is a national disgrace and on a scale that staggers belief This shows the % of ultra processed food we eat - people are right to reject angrily the further degradation of our foods Good farming matters Real food matters

Government handling of this is a shambles, and is going to derail progress that was starting to be made on nature recovery at scale. Vast majority of nature restoration will have to be done on privately owned farmland, and farmers need paying to do it. https://t.co/QN0gODmdyW

Why should farmers get inheritance tax breaks? Here is my take on it. @UKLabour you need to stop hiding behind your flawed figures, if you only want to hit 27% of farmers then make the changes! #stopthefamilyfarmtax

I often feel that GM doesn’t get the nuances and balance required to produce food whilst being stewards of the environment, but here he seems to have our back and is calling Labour out, for this crass decision
1. The one benefit of Brexit was a new farm subsidy system, paying for public goods like ecological restoration. But now the government has frozen the new grants, while swiftly cutting off the old ones, leaving farmers high and dry. It's deeply unfair and highly destructive. 🧵

‘On paper, my land is worth about £3.5m. But I’ll never see that cash unless I fail miserably at the only job I want to do, and the only job I’ve ever trained for. This is also the job that the country really needs me to do.’ - @wise_chapman 🙌 https://t.co/oxhuMUPL30

We’ve cared for our farm through war, pandemic and money worries. The inheritance tax row shows how little the government respects that, says Clare Wise, a farmer based in County Durham

Today it has been announced that capital grants are on hold, due to budget constraints. The truth is in real terms the budget is 44% smaller than 2019 and now the schemes can't be delivered. This government's rural policy is in tatters, trust severely damaged.
BREAKING: Environment department receives largest budget ever to deliver our priorities and the Government’s missions. Here's what you need to know 👇 https://t.co/TVNckIzO9B
