This is why I'm v v glad to not be working in the US right now.
This is a plan where the state seizes control of the universities including the private ones, imposes state-approved ideology, and dictates to them that their ultimate duty is to serve the interests of the state. This is freaking me out.

More and more it looks like PA mail in ballots for Dem voters have just disappeared.

Unmasked HCW: βWhy are you masking? Are you sick?β Me: βNo and Iβm trying to stay that wayβ HCW: βOh are you afraid of Covid? Youβre not going to get Covid HEREβ Followed by a big scoff. I donβt get it. The hospital is literally the place Iβm MOST likely to catch Covid.

Takes I have seen over and over: * Damn Latinos and Muslims. * Damn uneducated people. * Damn sexists. * Damn third-party voters. * We went too far left. * The election was stolen. Takes I haven't seen: * Maybe we should have pressured her to end genocide after all.

It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And theyβre right.

It's been less than a day, and I've seen all of these (some multiple times) from the lesser evil side. * Voters are too dumb * Rural voters should be cut off from help by cities * It's because Latinos hate Blacks * Harris didn't support Israel aggressively enough 1/

The one thing saving my sanity right now is that, unlike 2016, tomorrow I will face a roomful of students who are very far removed from the results of the US election. I'll be grieving for my home country, but not on their behalf this time. Just for myself.

I will die on this one: pay is the single largest gatekeeper we have in academia. This crap isnβt viable. Itβs hurting people, and limiting the pool of talented folks that think itβs a good idea to do science or have the resources to do so.

I can't even do this funnily or sarcastically for social media Here's what's happening: 1) We are cutting our first-year labs/seminars because we don't have funding for teaching assistants 2) Science departments are developing liberal arts courses to teach because Arts

Anyone who has ever mensturated while camping or traveling knows that for many people in Appalachia, this is currently a basic human dignity and sanitation concern. Out of touch idiots who think bodies are icky are the only one dismissing this.
I've never used a tampon, and my memory is a bit hazy about 8th-grade Health Ed, but perhaps those who do use tampons still need to use them even after a devastating hurricane, and might need a bit of help getting them.

Greta stopped being a media darling when she started connecting climate to capitalism. Now that she connects climate to colonialism and genocide, she has fallen outside the acceptable bounds of corporate media altogether.
