It brings me so much joy to unveil organizō: an online forum for sharing organizational tools & resources to support scientific operations and mentoring. Seeing @organizolife come to life is beyond anything I could have dreamed. I guess I’m a founder now!.

My heart and brain are so full after a terrific symposium. The Cornell students crushed it - the science was AMAZING to see and truly inspiring. Thank you again for the invite - I had the best time learning and sharing knowledge.

Tips:. 1. Decide first what you are willing to compromise on and stick to it. What is negotiable?. 2. Get feedback from trusted mentors. 3. Sleep on it - don’t rush into major decisions. 4. Give yourself grace - there is often no ā€œrightā€ decision. Reflect on each one to learn.

It’s not enough to be good at the technical parts of your job as a PI… you have to be able to identify solutions to complex problems in and out of the lab. There is never a perfect solution, and you’ll often have to compromise… but there is always a way forward.

I spent a lot of energy being upset that I didn't have the support I needed readily available, instead of just being proactive to find the support. Sure, it took energy, and it's not fair. but at the end of the day, reviewers don't care how you got there. The product speaks.

A big component of being successful is learning how to work with people, navigate personalities, and pick your battles. It's not a skill that can readily be taught, but self-awareness is a big component. The sooner we can teach trainees this, the more successful they will be 🌟.

High visibility and high expectations mean there’s huge opportunity for failure. Trying take every ā€œfailureā€ as a learning opportunity. It’s hard but this is the reality; if you can’t recognize, address, and move past the missteps, you’ll never grow.

Today was hard but tomorrow is likely to also be challenging. This job is a marathon, not a race. Important to keep focused, hear the hard feedback, and find the path forward - it takes work. Thankful for my friends and family who help me get through these hard times.
