The film follows unapologetic & free-spirited Inez (Teyana Taylor), who kidnaps her 6-year-old son Terry from the foster care system. Holding onto their secret and each other, mother and son set out to reclaim their sense of home, identity, & stability, in a rapidly changing NYC

I like how she credited her parents with having steered her away from situations where she would have accumulated debt. Good for her. Many 19-year-old’s living at home, and not enrolled in college & just working may not have debt, either.

“To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time." Here’s a photo from Cafe De Flore, one of Baldwin’s writing spots. It was a complete joy to visit in 2017.

"I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale; handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail; only last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick; I'm so mean I make medicine sick." —Muhammad Ali, 1974.

The brawl and their issues have been noted in books. I visited Paris and was at the Cafe De Flore, right by the place where they duked it out. 😯

Eddie has been quoted as saying he is comfortable sitting in his backyard doing nothing. I guess this is the “nothing” he was talking about.
@DrFrankRoberts
Thanks for this. Not for anything but 2 show another author’s issue with Wright—Margaret Walker. Her later-in-life, headline-grabbing literary & legal beefs with 2 of the leading Black male writers of her day, Wright & Alex Haley are discussed in new book.
@danblackroyd
I know what you mean. I retired early at 62, and some days I do NOTHING. After 46 years of doing SOMETHING. I think that’s a fair enough trade.
@tmg__alex
Dreadful. This is my alma mater class of ‘73. The principal is living in another world—and the teachers as well—that nothing was done about this. Someone mentioned red flags. This is certainly one of those cases, IMO. How far are students allowed to go with free expression?
@Northstartv1
“The Madison was created and popularized by African-American teens in the late 1950s. Unfortunately - and this is a theme that repeats throughout American social dance history - there are virtually no recordings of contemporary African-American dancing the steps.”

Nancy is an “old school” name. I had a relative named Nancy. 🤷🏿♀️. And I know someone named Sally and had a best friend years ago named Josie.

Key. The non Black publicist will just go to the next media outlet, which is most likely not a Black outlet. That same PR person won’t ever understand the need to secure Black media ink.

I agree. As much as I never watched Seinfeld, he gets a big YAY‼️ from me. He says he hasn’t found the humor in using the word, nor does he seek it. 👏🏾👏🏾

Right you never know what’s going to happen next. But at least he can’t brag about winning this one. It will be on his obit. IMPEACHED❗️❗️
So a strong police presence at the base of Old Town at North Avenue and Wells. But at 54th & Wentworth folks walking out of the furniture store strapping a box spring & mattress on top of a car Where were the police to protect that property ⁉️

I have had this dress since the early 90’s—30 years. Bagatelle. I lost a significant amount of weight when I was sick. I was able to wear it back in September. I bought it for my graduation from

in 1992.

I know it’s Hollywood but how do these people get together? Is there a registry, an app, where the actors and actors, or actors and artists go—and say, “hey I’m single, let’s go out?” I’m not knocking this—just wondering.
@jessinhtx
“Biography gives leading 20th-century Black writer her due” As it emerged later, “Haley did, in fact, use Walker’s book and others, and she went ballistic when she recognized it, and she later sued and lost.”

The late Thomas Jefferson Byrd. I have met and interviewed others for film reviews. However, I met Byrd outside of

and he let me interrupt his quiet time. I believe he was in Chicago filming. We even texted from time to time about politics and culture in Chicago.

I interviewed him once by phone not too long ago. A very pleasant man. He genuinely seemed concerned when I said that I had just survived a very bad health scare. Just nice all the way around.

Agreed. And the article mentions the word “woke.” That’s silent/loud word for Black. It’s despicable. I’m sure the cop was compensated for his appearance, and the club and restaurant owner were unbothered by the entire event. I wonder how many folks just got up and left?

Probably explains why every other time, I have been patted down, and asked to take locs down if they are pinned up. When a Black female

I trust he has the confidence of someone to guide him and protect him with future plans. A proud gentlemen. I can’t understand what he’s saying. But he’s choking up about the generosity of others.

DALLAS — A former Dallas police officer who shot her unarmed black neighbor in his own apartment was found guilty of murder.” The headline refers to “white.” Now I’m as woke as nxt person but do we need 2 say Black & white. It was IMO murder—no matter the victim or accused race.
