he/him🐢 CT/MD Progressive political junkie. UMCP Dems. DTC Member. Springsteen fan. Aspiring climate wonk/hawk. Sorry for the typos. Opinions all my own
C’mon, man. Bernie was recruited by *Michael Harrington” into the young wing of the Socialist Party while at UChicago. He’s never been a normal Democrat, he’s been a socialist since his college years. He’s just been the best, most politically-savvy socialist since Harrington.
@opinonhaver
Will die on the hill of "Bernie is a normal Democrat; the party moved to the right, which made left cranks mistake him for a fellow crank"
The party that lied about John Kerry’s Purple Heart would like you all to know that it was really mean to call out Mitt Romney for claiming 47% of Americans were moochers.
In Connecticut you are forced to proclaim the glory of apizza...if you praise New York or Boston you are thrown into the Sound...children are taught to drive aggressively at 5...if you resist they force you to drive on the Merritt at rush hour
So by my math, Barnes needs ~60% of all remaining votes to win...seeing as the largest batch of uncounted votes is in Milwaukee which is currently breaking 70-30 for Barnes and is at 87% reporting...it could happen???
Idk about you but even though I like Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson, if they were found to be as incredibly corrupt and unethical as Thomas I’d want them off the court too.
Before taking out too strong a position on Justice Thomas, you might wanna wait for the other shoes to drop.
I am guessing this is probably epidemic in an institution marked by secrecy and prestige
Declaring Biden a traitor to trans folks and telling your followers how bad the libs are gets you a lot more engagement than "it’s not clear how this policy works, let's wait and see.” You can make up reasons why you are right and everyone else is wrong but it’s still dumb, man.
@GoodPoliticGuy
That 91% of Melenchon voters who voted for Macron is ~8.2% of the total electorate. This is 1) not a big deal and 2) even it were a lot more voters that's okay. It's how a two-round system works and why the second round exists.
@JoePostingg
“I’m just a sloppy idealist interested in making the world a better place, that’s why I spend all my time on Twitter writing up lists of people I’ll send to camps after the revolution”
@GravitysRa1nbow
If the CEOs of Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop, RTX, or any other major DoD contractor pulled this stuff they’d be out in fewer than 24 hours. It’s insane that he’s not held to any standard.
Imma be real with y’all—I think it’s gonna be a while before healthcare gets the top priority by a dem trifecta again. Too many Dems are still spooked after the reaction to the ACA. It’ll be really hard to get swing district dems behind big healthcare reform for a while.
The Fourteenth Amendment is not a get-out-of-jail free card on this! It’s not a solution, it would still cause a smaller bond market collapse. No one wants to buy US bonds while the constitutionality of their issue is unclear! It cause a panic
Seeing people talk about “when I listened to Chapo/Red Scare” and how they got into following politics closely and opining regularly makes me very glad my introduction to politics was thru Real Politics rather than parasocial podcasters.
Also, yeah duh the party shifted rightward from the 70s to the early 2000s. End of that rightward shift is really represented by Pelosi becoming minority leader imo
Why is Pete even being considered? He’s the secretary of transportation who’s only won low-turnout municipal elections in South Bend, Iowa. He’s not a legitimate alternative.
@EricMGarcia
I looked up what this guy does…his dad is worth $8bn and I think he’s made his money managing different funds meant to “find solutions” to all sorts of global problems. Tax the rich!
@revhowardarson
Yes but where’s the fun in nuance when a simplistic, incorrect view of history let’s me get super angry at Liberals and declare others evil and paint history in the colors I want to see it in
@RonaldKlain
@JoeBiden
Ron, I’m a big fan I was just commenting on a poll regarding Medicare for All. I was not kvetching for no reason. I really didn’t want any of this attention.
This is an evil, disgusting lie. They’re angry that CT has changed its definition of sexual orientation to be more inclusive, because they are bigots. That’s all there is.
Board of Education elections are going to be an especially bigoted spectacle this fall, I anticipate.
Connecticut just passed a bill banning discrimination against “minor attracted” persons.
In other words, in CT, that disgusting pig sitting in his car next to the school playground fantasizing about what he’d like to do to your child is safer than your child is.
@poorly_hidden
It’s the same types who will claim it’s someone’s turn for a nomination or that it’s disrespectful to say bad stuff about an elected democrat. Then they turn around and say stuff like “we told you so.”
@aquaimperium8
1. Between 2010 and mid-2014 more probably than not, he was a sufficiently hardened Harry Potter fan that he knew he was a Ravenclaw and his Patronus would be a Falcon. 2. More probably than not, he has since been functioning as a closeted HP fan;
@rev_avocado
We would be a healthier, happier, kinder and better society if we lived in denser communities with shared communal spaces and interacted with each other more often.
Rail Force One should be a thing here in the United States. It would be so much cooler if our president traveled on a train instead of a plane.
Well waddaya know, I stumbled onto another cool reason we should massively expand rail across the country!
You can tell he takes his Jewish faith seriously because he’s refusing to feed hungry chi—wait, hold on—I’m being told that actually Jews are *commanded* to feed the hungry and it’s an important mitzvah. I didn’t know Ben played fast and loose with Jewish law.
Ben Shapiro: "School lunches are not going to solve the problem of child hunger at any serious level," adding "It does not take that much money to feed a child"
The purpose of the policy was to stop bans on trans athletes. If someone writes that the Biden admin is betraying trans people over this paragraph change in Title IX I’m uuuuuhh gonna wanna see receipts.
@agraybee
That would require people stop actually being Eurocentric and look around for narratives and stories told outside of Europe. Those trying to convince people that the Vikings were Black are still intensely Eurocentric.
Classic Lying Larry Hogan: he’ll shake hands and be friendly at Annapolis Pride, but he’s never been an ally to LGBTQ+ Marylanders, and he certainly won’t be an ally in the US Senate.
“Failing to take advantage of a Dem President and Senate to replace aging liberal justices with younger, more progressive ones will put the court at great risk of lurching to the right vs. No it won’t.
My favorite thing in politics/policy is people claiming that stuff “shouldn’t be political” as if there government or public policy and ever be genuinely apolitical.
George Washington wanted to live in a fantasy where we would not have factions a democracy. He was foolish to believe this was possible.
Factions are inherent to democracy. Read Federalist No. 10. Madison knew what was up.
George Washington warned against primary loyalties -- loyalties to identities (ethnic, religious, racial, etc.) other than American and states other than America -- and considered evidence of such, disqualification for participation in American governance.
@revhowardarson
On a side note have the alternate histories that feature an Aztec empire surviving through the modern era featured these aspects of Aztec society?
@NickTagliaferro
That’s an excellent way of putting it—conservatives feel no obligations, no responsibilities to anyone but yourself and your family. They’ve completely perverted what personal responsibility means so it’s devoid of social/communal responsibility.
Ngl I think it’s really cool that College Dems of America is sorta falling apart right now and I’m just out of the loop.
It’s a serious, well-run organization folks!
@lilbabygandhi
Nah. My family and millions of others were saved by being able to come to the US. We can’t take that deal and shut the door behind us, denying others that potential salvation. It’s wrong and inhumane.
You’ve just got to laugh at the CT civility police hemming and hawing over Rep. Linehan flipping the bird at Trump Tower. Republicans have a convicted felon running for president who is vulgar and cruel and crass but somehow **this** is a big deal?? Gimme a break lol
State Rep. Liz Linehan of Cheshire was pictured recently outside Trump Tower in New York City, giving the middle finger toward the iconic gold building on Fifth Avenue
What I dislike about Newsom is the opposite of what I like about Moore, Whitmer, and Walz. Whereas Newsom is using media gimmicks to increase his national profile, the others are actually working on big progressive policy achievements to create a national profile.
Gigantic disappointment from CT this morning. The CGA had a great opportunity to put in place an affordable housing policy with a successful track record in other states. Very frustrating to see it killed.
#BREAKING
Lawmakers are dropping “Fair Share” affordable housing quotas because of a lack of support from suburban Democrats
The bill will now mainly include tenant protections
@rev_avocado
Suburban and urban Left-liberals will inevitably be the bedrock of any coalition that enacts a social democratic or progressive agenda. Leftists are elected with left-liberals as an important part of their base!
