Paving the path to the Long Night. Online algorithms and AIs flag your actions as a 'thought crime.' A judge sentences you in a streamlined process (rubber stamp). You end up in prison.

"The Long Night is a sameness of thought and approach enforced by a pervasive AI-fueled surveillance network. A network championed by a politically dominant establishment of socially internetworked believers that crushes dissent and enforces a strict alignment to its beliefs.

🔥New report is up! 🔥 The Long Night Returns Our corporations now have the capability of delivering a "surveillance state as a service" to any political establishment that demands it. Once it is turned on, there's no going back.

My kid’s class had to write opinion papers on the AI data center they want to build near here. From what I could tell, no kid in class was in favor of the data center. Mostly due to bogus environmental reasons that resonate more deeply than AI fears.

Global orientation (2025); The top 10% (household incomes over $210k) generated 50% of retail sales. National orientation (1990), The top 40% of households generated 50% of retail sales. Which decision making orientation works best?

Bloomberg: Top 10% of income earners accounted for 50% of retail sales. yeah, there are no easy fixes.

Good point. Another error is the expectation that as a machine (from AI assistants to Autonomous vehicles), the error rates should be negligible, even when accomplishing the most complex tasks.

Our lack of any reliable measures of human error rates across intellectually demanding tasks and fields is a huge hindrance to understanding the thresholds of hallucination and reliability that AI might cross incrementally that could lead to sudden leaps in usefulness & adoption.

Nearly everyone. Same for Bitcoin. Same for social networking. At the start (I was the first professional Internet analyst at a major firm in 1995), the pushback was: this is the CB radio fad all over again. When I was building social networks in 2001, the pushback was "why

Back to 8GB for mid-range laptops will be devastating for MS & Win 11. After MS pushed for a 16GB standard due to OS & app bloat, 8GB has become borderline unusable in many cases. Also these laptops can't carry the "Copilot+" branding due to 16GB min. requirement

@CathieDWood A major additional factor should be considered. Satellites with localized AI compute, where just the results are beamed back from low-latency, sun-synchronous orbit, will be the lowest cost way to generate AI bitstreams in <3 years. And by far the fastest way to scale within 4

Elon can get approval for an entire constellation of satellites generating TWs of power to connected AI datacenters with one regulatory application (an application that will likely be rubber stamped).
