Popped over to Leith Walk for lunch - all this in 10 minutes. The tram has been repeatedly stuck behind parked vehicles today, with thousands of people delayed across Edinburgh. Disastrous active travel and public transport infrastructure made worse by entitled drivers.

I've just spoken with the Police. They have refused to prosecute any of the 50 drivers I have caught on video at the Brunswick Road/Leith Walk junction. They have also refused to allocate any officers to the junction. @EdinburghPolice @CllrScottArthur @susan4leithwalk

The Roseburn path is irreplaceable. Strava heat map shows how it connects Granton, Newhaven etc with the Southside & West End. It's probably the most important active travel corridor in the city, given the lack of alternatives?

Cyclists have passed the Omni Centre in Edinburgh 80,000 times so far in 2024. That's a 76% year-on-year increase! I'm in the process of setting up a twitter-bot that will post daily numbers and records - watch this space.

1,840 cyclists passed the Omni Centre on Tuesday 19th March 2024. That’s a new record. 103,000 cyclists have now used the cycle lane in 2024, a 78% increase compared with this time last year. Build it and they will come. Even in hilly Edinburgh, during a Scottish winter.

Following community concerns, today @EdinPolNE community officers were at Leith Walk at London Road. No road users attempted the no left turn during the officers presence. Many members of the community stopped to speak with the officers to discuss local and wider topics.

It's been interesting reading the replies to this. Even folk in wheelchairs aren't allowed to get in the way of Edinburgh drivers. This selfishness was always directed at cyclists, and later pedestrians, but this was a taboo I wasn't expecting to be broken.

I will never use this cycle lane. It puts pedestrians in danger, the surface is rubbish, and I'm likely to hit the mini-kerb on the numerous corners and come off my bike. To the drivers who blast their horns at me for holding you up - direct your ire at @TramstoNewhaven

The new pavement layout on #LeithWalk in #Edinburgh is not safe or accessible for blind & visually impaired pedestrians. Cyclists & pedestrians should not be expected to share the same space. Cycle lanes should not be put behind pedestrian crossings, it is a dangerous design.

The new planters. For me they are a sad reminder that ZERO trees have been planted anywhere on Leith Walk. A good place for trees would be at the corners of the continuous pavements to slow drivers down.

Leith Walk's cycle lane recorded over 2,000 cyclists for the first time on the 30th of April, 2024. The total number of cycle journeys in 2024 has increased by around 60% compared with this time last year.
