Antidepressant withdrawal and online support. We keep getting told that psychiatrists have never seen antidepressant withdrawal or that it is at best minimal. Online tells a different story. There are currently over 100,000 people in Facebook support groups desperately trying

7/ At the very least, the public deserves some clarity. Who really wrote the JAMA Psychiatry review? Who wrote the conclusions and recommendations?.And why the lack of transparency around authorship on such a consequential and controversial topic?.

6/ This ambiguity around authorship undermines trust. It risks giving the impression that the scientific review is a PR manoeuvre that 'credibility launders' bold, policy-relevant claims through an unfamiliar name.

5/ Could this be a case of reputational distancing?.By placing a junior assistant as first author, the paper appears more "neutral" and so less visibly tied to establishment figures with known biases. But in doing so, it obscures who actually shaped its conclusions.

3/ Meanwhile, the senior author listed is a well-known psychiatrist with longstanding ties to establishment psychiatry and a track record of minimising antidepressant withdrawal harms.

2/ The first author, Michail Kalfas, is listed as a research assistant and appears to be the only co-author without a PhD. It’s highly unusual for someone so junior to lead a major, controversial review making sweeping claims that could shape clinical guidelines- especially in.

What goes unacknowledged here is that without the Davies and Read paper, the issue of antidepressant withdrawal might still be sidelined entirely-despite these drugs being on the market for nearly four decades. Their work was a turning point and forced the conversation into the.

Despite all the pious talk about “letting the evidence speak for itself” and just “reflecting what the science says,” the real goal of the Kalfas paper was always to generate this headline-and push it far and wide. "Most people have no severe withdrawal from antidepressants,

I suppose I should tell the people I know - disabled, suicidal, and abandoned after psych drug harm - that their pain is just a distraction from the real root causes, and that they should wait for the revolution. I’m sure that’ll be comforting for them. .

I am a critic of the widespread overprescribing of antidepressants. I’m also wary of the discourse that treats antidepressants and psychiatry itself as the primary cause of ongoing pain. Both sides of this debate ultimately function to obscure root causes and genuine solutions.

The Age of Deference is Over: It's just no one told psychiatry. The medical profession is facing a challenge it doesn’t yet understand: people are no longer waiting to be granted a voice-they’re taking one. Most of you will have seen the firestorm online over the new.

We’re not yelling at the driver for checking the brakes at 10mph. We’re yelling because they told millions it was safe to hit the freeway based on that - and now there’s a multi-car pileup. We don’t need more 10mph spin tests. We need research that reflects real-world use -.

Fair point but let’s not yell at the driver for checking the brakes at 10 km/h. Short-term trials aren’t the whole road trip, but at least someone started the engine. Now let’s ask for a full test drive, not throw out the map. 🛣️ #ScienceInProgress #BetterResearch.

Since minimising the prevalence and severity of antidepressant withdrawal is back in fashion, I revisited testimonies submitted to the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for Prescribed Drug Dependence. They reveal the reality behind the euphemisms and the statistics. These are.
