A pleasure to be working with such a great team on this often overlooked cancer. OSCC is the less common type of oesophageal cancer in the UK and Ireland but is by far the commonest subtype globally We hope this local research will have global impact! @CPH_QUB @ochrecancer
Thank you to Ochre for this generous funding. Great to be working with @RussellPetty19 @HelenColemanQUB @dr_turk and others on this exciting new research. @CPH_QUB @QUBelfast @dundeeuni

Exciting Day ahead at the @AllCaN_BCR symposium @TCDTMI. So important that we build All Island networks to focus on specific cancers. The power of knowledge from these collaborations and building capacity creates so much hope for the future @uniofgalway @BreakthroCancer

Overall, we demonstrated the ability of neoadjuvant therapy to markedly modulate the immune microenvironment in oesophageal cancer, which may guide how we combine chemo- and immuno-therapy in the future. @QUBelfast @CPH_QUB @BelfastTrust @CR_UK

3. Found that loss of immune signalling in the immune-high cluster is also associated with a reduction in tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes. 4. Discovered that treatment with the pan-HER inhibitor AZD8931 may contribute to an immunosuppressive phenotype.

2. Showed that neoadjuvant therapy results in an induction of common resistance signatures, such as angiogenesis and EMT, but also in the a marked reduction of immune/inflammatory signalling in the immune-high subgroup

1. Identified three molecular subgroups in oesophageal adenocarcinoma classified by innate immune signalling (immune-high, immune-low and immune-mixed) using the Almac Diagnostics ClaraT assay. @AlmacGroup

We are also supporting the @CR_UK and @NIHRresearch funded BEST4 trial to look at capsule sponge testing as a way to screen for Barrett's oesophagus. By catching cancer early, or even before it starts, we hope to see more patients surviving a diagnosis of oesophageal cancer.

Almost half of all patients with Barrett's oesophagus do not have any symptoms, such as heartburn, and so are not aware they have the disease. We are developing new methods to identify Barrett's oesophagus patients who do not have any symptoms. @CPH_QUB @nicancertrials
