Today is the 24th anniversary of the beginning of the end for Rail privatisation. On 7 October 2001 Labour ministers forced Railtrack into receivership. A year later Network Rail emerged as a company limited by guarantee but was classified as a public body in 2013.

Just like to point out that i won the quiz on @hugorifkind today on @TimesRadio. I am now prime minister - in my dreams and nightmares. Just rejoice at the news! PS I didn’t volunteer to take part; bit of an accident.

The London Stock Exchange is dying. We have dropped out of the top 20 IPO markets, falling behind Mexico. In 2006 London raised $51bn, this year it was $248m. A 99% decrease. Some thoughts on why this matters and how we change course 🧵

BP is rowing back its "peak oil" demand forecast for 2025. Now it says it would be 2030 at the earliest. I'm lost for words about how bad BP has been at modelling energy consumption in recent years | #OOTT

@HiddenYorkshire Strong hints of Genesis too I find. Bertie and chums are effectively in Eden and still can't help mucking it up: reliant on an omniscient and omnipotent Jeeves to clear it all up. I am available for other sermon ideas!
