The NIBS field now has a data repository!!! 🙌🥳 We have now officially launched 'Big NIBS data' - an open-access platform and repository for non-invasive brain stimulation data! https://t.co/HzqYDnsgpw. A thread 🧵 (also see preprint: https://t.co/pwnnZIpL1v)

BREAKING: Your brain’s connective tissue isn’t just glue: It’s a switchboard for neuromodulation. We used to think that astrocytes (the beautiful star-shaped glial cells) were the brain’s 'support staff.' But thanks to exciting new work from Guttenplan and colleagues this week in

Today, the New England Journal of Medicine published what may be a landmark moment: doctors used customized gene editing inside a living baby to treat a deadly genetic disease called carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) deficiency. Is it time to prepare for a world where we

We’re currently getting feedback from other NIBS researchers on NIBSds, and will launch it as a pre-print in the new year (hopefully January)! See you on Big NIBS data! Please join the Slack channel and get involved, everyone is welcome! 😀

NIBSds is a similar concept to BIDS. However, also different because the nature, layout, and analyses required of NIBS data are distinct. We also give a template for data management and analysis procedures, with example spreadsheets and code!

Finally, given that people will be uploading/sharing data, we realised that we needed a template format for NIBS data. So, the final component we created is NIBSds (data structure) – a template for organising, managing, and analysing NIBS data.

The main components of Big NIBS data are: 1. Our website ( https://t.co/HzqYDnsgpw) 2. The Big NIBS data repository 3. The Big NIBS data Slack workspace (join here: https://t.co/puGRv8XRel)

We operated this informally as the 'Big TMS data Collaboration' until 2023, when we began working across departments at Deakin University to create Big NIBS data! We hope that this becomes a place where researchers can connect, upload/download data, collab on big data projects.

We began informally collecting data from other labs 2017 at Deakin University, and this came together with two publications in 2020 and 2021 in Brain Stim. and Clin. Neurophys, looking at variability in TMS data across 687 healthy participants from 35 studies.

Repositories are common in other fields, like neuroimaging, genomics, and EEG. For example, OpenNeuro for MRI, EEG, and PET data. This has led to an explosion in data sharing and re-use in these fields. Unfortunately, nothing like this has existed for the NIBS field 😔
