It doesn't matter if 1% or 10% or 100% of the residents choose to get around on bikes. Give them the choice.

As I discussed in my interview with #NotJustBikes (below), these are the 5 STEPS TO MAKING BETTER CITIES I’ve been using for many years, and eventually wrote about in @FastCompany. Too many cities are stuck in Step 2 (doing the wrong things better), and have to really be careful

Before you can do the right thing, you have to do the right thing badly. And before that, you have to do the wrong thing.

Cycling isn’t just another mode of transport; it’s an opportunity to redesign the city around people instead of cars. The tragedy is how often we limit this potential by squeezing it into the very system it could transform. (🖼️ by Andy Singer)

Each and every fresh snow reveals how much we’ve over-designed our streets and roads for cars, making them faster and more dangerous, and how much space we could reclaim for people and public life. We call them sneckdowns. GIF via @otucis #sneckdown https://t.co/gJERGg9ZA1

Here’s something really important for everyone to understand. If we design our cities for cars only, they fail everyone, including drivers. If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers. Spread the word.
