I don't claim to be an expert on scouting or international prospects (notoriously hit-or-miss exercise) but everything I've heard and seen says that this kid is a once-in-a-blue-moon talent. really glad it's my team that's 'tentatively' getting him!

kawhi's apex was if anything a more impactful version of kd's (singularly great iso scorer who provides outlier value off the ball both offensively and defensively) and he drove the bus on multiple deep playoff runs with subpar casts. this take is just trying to be 'different'
Now that it’s over I can finally say Kawhi was pretty overrated at his Apex

showing my work: bassitt's contract is roughly value against starting pitcher market, bellinger's is 8.5m underwater (32.5m guaranteed for optimistically a 3 fwar projection, 24m value), difference is a 45+ fv prospect which is what I'd grade horton (or say caissie or cam smith)

like I get that as fans you want your team to succeed but you also gotta engage with reality a little too lol. the fact that it's not a clear cut decision to buy as well as 100+ games of evidence tells you that the right move is to cut your losses and build for 2024 instead.

not sure why mariners fans keep pushing the 'this team needs to buy' narrative; they're 5.5 out of wc3, performing around their true talent, buying corner bats off the scrap heap doesn't move the needle and they can't get anything bigger without making logan gilbert available.

so......87 wins, tampa / houston / toronto all finish with more than that assuming they go just .500 from here (none of them have a tough slate either) and you have to head off boston as well. lot of effort to add for no purpose beyond pride (and an inability to admit defeat.)

mariners fans were saying that julio clears vlad and bo combined when in reality he’s just rich man’s daulton varsho. makes you think about how we have it in comparison.
It’s been a topsy-turvy season for Mariners OF Julio Rodriguez, but his .153 batting average and 36.3% K-Rate in the 9th inning does seem to stand out. Also hitting just .174 in “high leverage” spots in 2023. Game has seemingly sped up on him in big moments at times this year.
