Most streets in the older parts of Toronto only have one lane for driving cars. This is almost exclusively because of on-street parking. And yet, bike lanes receive more of the blame for traffic, which are an allocation of space that actually move people. Rather efficiently too.

I imagined the Chatsubo in 1984. 41 years later, I opened the door. Neuromancer is in production.

Bike lanes are for BIKES. Period. Stopped for an entire light cycle on Wellesley St W — raised curb, zero tolerance, $200 ticket served. No excuses, no exceptions. This is safety infrastructure. 🚲💢 #BikeLaneEnforcement #TorontoCycling #BikeTO #NoStopping #VisionZero

We are saddened to share that longtime Maple Leafs PA Announcer Paul Morris has passed away at 86. The voice of Maple Leaf Gardens for decades, Paul never missed a game from 1961 to 1999. He called the final game at the Gardens and was the first voice at Scotiabank Arena. More

Manhattan has seen almost 50,000 fewer cars per day thanks to a congestion charge. Should Toronto consider it? https://t.co/JtU9PjkPGw

When the real industry talks about single-family housing, it’s common to use the term “home.” But for non-grade related housing like apartments, it’s “unit.” This is a deeply rooted bias coming through in our choice of language.

No stepbacks. Extruded box. This simple building typology is the workhorse of so many great cities.

Note the Main Street and mixed-use urbanism being depicted. This, as opposed to suburban drive-thrus, is apparently what people find romantic.

This iconic @FabianTodorovic cartoon is still one of the best at illustrating the amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone/everything else. The newer @london_chrisp text makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

It is the same with bike lanes. They appear “empty” because people move efficiently through them, unlike single driver car lanes.

Notice how logos recently all look the same? Not because it makes them look better... But because of THIS psychological trick that manipulates your brain. That's why Google, Microsoft, and Airbnb are all doing it. Here's the full explanation:🧵

Yesterday's BC Election remains to close to call for several ridings and the overall balance of power, but I decided to do a quick land-vs-people vote animation anyway. (Cross-posting with one day delay from the other site where the air is cleaner and skies are bluer.)

And end regional sprawl. It seems like a bit of an obvious trick to expand regional highways and Greenfield development endlessly and then to blame a few urban bike lanes on the reason why the streets are congested.
Traveling by car around the GTA is more unbearable than ever. Killing a few kilometres of bike lanes will do nothing. The Province needs to focus on delivering mass transit at scale to solve the congestion crisis.
