#PETE Faculty and Researchers - please consider joining the PETE Collaborative for this important conversation today. Is @SHAPEAmerica still a meaningful place for us? Do we need to pursue other options?

💭 The field has long resisted OLPE, but district expansion of virtual options makes it increasingly unavoidable. We argue: It's time to develop a clear evidence base & evolve teacher prep and PD to support intentional and theory-informed OLPE integration where/when appropriate.

🏫 Implication: To support OLPE in the long-term, we need: ✅ Stronger training ✅ Better admin support ✅ Practical LMS integration into PETE ✅ Framing online learning as enhancing, not replacing, in-person PE

🗣️ Qualitative data showed major barriers: 🚫 Policy confusion 🆘 Lack of support 📉 Student engagement struggles These barriers weakened motivation, especially for teachers left to “sink or swim.”

👵 Experience matters: Teachers with 11–15 years experience had the most positive outlook. Those with 30+ years were the least optimistic. The “digital middle” may be most adaptable to OLPE (online PE).

💡 Top predictors of intent to continue online PE use: ✔️ Performance Expectancy (Will it help me teach better?) ✔️ Effort Expectancy (How easy is it to use?) ✔️ Attitude Toward Technology ❗Surprise: Those with more online teaching experience reported lower future intent.
