100%. There are risks w/ ChatGPT and it may not help individuals suffering from psychosis but the speculations about it playing a causal role here are sensational at this point.

I think the evidence for "ChatGPT-induced psychosis," interpreted literally, is weak. Clearly there are people in the midst of a mental crisis who are interacting with ChatGPT in a concerning way. This is very different from the claim that it is *inducing* psychosis.

I once said Cato the Younger "committed suicide" in a newsletter and got replies that said I should’ve written "died by suicide.". Cato the Younger stabbed himself, was found and treated, and then tore out his own intestines.

Surprised to learn from my wife that psychologists have proscribed saying “commit” suicide, because it’s too blamey, and insist instead on “complete” suicide.

Buddhists and Stoics agree that our thoughts are illusory and low quality. But the Stoic aims to perfect thought, where the Buddhist tries to empty it.

Plenty of critiques of pop Stoicism — maybe the most slept-on is how much of it is AI slop.

Probably one of the best cases for philosophical hedonism really. Hedonists tended to have fun.

Literally every negative utilitarian I’ve ever met has been very depressed and anhedonic. The whole "the only moral question is reducing suffering" thing doesn't come from galaxy-brain philosophical argument, it’s just a totally normal failure of empathy and imagination.

In moments of doubt, remember Musonius Rufus said: . “Marriage did not hinder Pythagoras or Socrates or Crates, each of whom lived with a wife, and no one could name other philosophers who were better than these.”.

Kinda interesting how none of the great religions or philosophies say that life is about having “good mental health”.
