We frantically throw new curriculums, programs, money, teachers, resources, schedules, & so much more at an ever-growing Tier 2 & 3 services population. The answer is in the classroom daily. The answer is in Tier 1. It IS the solution. Design it to be.

My regular plea to teachers: "Please ditch the traditional weekly word list. The only way students learn to spell & read words is through orthographic mapping. The assignment of the traditional weekly spelling list does the opposite of orthographic mapping. #DitchTheWordList

Improving learning primarily through Tiers 2 & 3 is like taking a family road trip by pushing the car down the road instead of using the engine. It's gonna be a lot of work & sweat, & won't get you where you need to go. Crank that Tier 1 engine up & get things moving.

As you commemorate #MLKDay, please remember my mother, as well. She was the architect of the King Legacy and founder of @TheKingCenter, which she founded less than three months after Daddy was assassinated. Without #CorettaScottKing, there would be no MLK Day. #MLKDay2023

Strike action in schools isn't going to have any real long-term impact on a child. But endless funding cuts, a retention crisis caused by pay & conditions, collapsing staff morale & the unnecessary pressures created by Ofsted & excessive accountability, yeah, I think that might.
