Enough is Enough #stopthearmsrace. The exponential growth of pre-residency publications, frequently favoring quantity over quality, HAS to stop. Our automatic calculator ( https://t.co/M9AfZIBj3o) permits rapid calculation. Programs in multiple specialties are already using ARCS.
New @NeurosurgeryCNS: a proposed solution to the publication “arms race” - #ArmsRaceControlScore. ARCS quantifies authorship effort, disincentivizes quantity over quality, and offers meaningful comparison of #ResidencyApplicants. Designed by @bowersbrainsurg @MichaelKogan20

Phenomenal work by the singular @TheYangLab1 & anubhavchandla Huge congrats! Really grateful for them taking #ARCS to the next level & for the collaborations. #ARCS was deliberately designed to change how we evaluate residents & faculty also. Stay tuned for much more!
Phenomenal work by our outstanding #postgraduate #researcher #AnubhavChandla @NSTumorSection @CNS_Update #2025cns #cns2025 #cnsconnects #LA on his multi-institutional study analyzing the #ARCS matrix of #residency #academic #productivity and post-residency status! A true

Great work by the students! Refining frailty knowledge!
Combining RAI (the best frailty index) with a key nutritional index (the GNRI) results in an even stronger tool in predicting surgical outcomes in spine surgery #frailtyfighter Great work by the team!

Great work by all the students. Looking forward to catching up with everyone the next couple days & seeing the great work that they have done! #frailtyfighters
Congratulations and best wishes to all our lab members presenting at the CNS 2025 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles this week! We're proud to see your hard work and research showcased on the international stage. #cns2025 #bowersfrailtylab #frailty #neurosurgery #neurotwitter

💯- could not agree more. Absolute superstar. An even better human as well. Will be a phenomenal resident wherever she ends up. Excited to watch her career continue to flourish. Huge thanks to you @PascalJabbourMD for the amazing mentorship.
I am thrilled to spotlight @Joannaroy99 Joanna Roy, our stellar Postdoctoral Research Fellow @TJUHNeurosurg as she gears up for this season's neurosurgery match, know she's an absolute powerhouse at all levels : clinical, research and interpersonal skills. She is a top-tier

This is awesome! #savethelake
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is part of a new water release from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake. Ten thousand new acre-feet of water, or 3.26 billion gallons, will come from the Jordan River and upstream storage in Utah Lake. It will flow through the Jordan

New @GlobalSpineJ: We developed the CGARP score, a novel frailty & nutrition-based risk model for spine surgery. It outperforms existing tools in predicting mortality, complications, LOS & discharge outcomes. Grateful for mentorship from @bowersbrainsurg and the @BowersNsgyLab

Awesome work team! This is critical for those of us that cover level 1 trauma centers & are always treating these patients. The RAI is the most effective & tested frailty assessment tool for all brain & spine surgery patients. #frailtyfighter
New @EurSpineJournal: RAI outperforms mFI-5 in predicting 30-day mortality after thoracolumbar fracture surgery, offering enhanced risk stratification for frail patients. Grateful for the support of @bowersbrainsurg @KishanSShah @nithingupta0210 @SinaZoghiMD

Academic engagement & advancing the science of neurosurgery is vital & distinguishes us. But the exponential growth in conferences, journals, & societies is staggering & may be unsustainable. We would favor quality over quantity, but documenting cost is also a worthwhile task

This was a superb lecture on the pendulum swing & huge increase in spinal deformity correction surgeries, especially w/ patients. Decision before the incision and don’t treat the deformity parameters …treat the patient! a master class by Dr. Park @SemmesMurphey @AdamArthurMD
Thank you Dr Paul Park @SemmesMurphey for an engaging talk on the role of spine deformity surgery @MINeuroSurgeons 2025!

Congrats @jasonryanmd , so well deserved! And for comments about getting rich, money is always nice, but the milestone of having created such a unique product that improves the world is what feels so amazing , irrespective of the money. Happy for the success of your passion!
McGraw Hill went public today and our CEO was interviewed on CNBC where the host cited Boards and Beyond among the company’s recent acquisitions. Hard to believe that the little company I started on my home computer 10 years ago is now part of the NYSE. Too bad the share price

Phenomenal work by the great @Femiowodunni & @evanccc , in > than 20k type II Odontoid fractures. Frail have worse outcomes, but surgical treatment actually results in better outcomes compared to non-op tx in older patients. This can shift the way we think about this disease.
Is your trauma center assessing #frailty early enough?Frailty’s impact on spine trauma is profound & measurable. Multidisciplinary care from the ER onwards is key & improves outcomes. Our @NeurosurgeryCNS article shows why. @bowersbrainsurg @BowersNsgyLab @evanccc #EMCCM #Brain

Hyperauthorship counterintuitively devalues true scholarship by handing authorship out unethically for free, based on relationships and not for true merit. Why it’s important to know who did what in a research paper
universityworldnews.com
These days we are in a world of hyperauthorship, with ever-growing lists of names on journal articles, but with early career researchers often not get...
