"This Government have created a divide in our sector where academised colleges have access to funding, and the other colleges don’t." On Thursday, members and General Secretary Daniel Kebede told us why it's so important that sixth form teachers aren't forgotten.

After #Budget2024 still tbc how support for employer NI costs will operate, how £300m revenue funding will be used and what the capital settlement means for SFCs and 16-19 academies. You can read our Budget submission in full here:

Our asks: raise the rate of funding for 16-18s - currently lower than for primary school students - by at least £710 per student per year; address financial inequalities for sixth form colleges like VAT; and fund expansion of college buildings to accommodate growing population.

"It gives me hope that there will be a better, longer term investment plan set out in the spring 2025 spending review to ensure that colleges can thrive and make an even bigger impact in coming years." - @AoCDavidH responds to today's budget announcement. https://t.co/odLEzpqycS

The NI increase for colleges is around £25m to £30m, so £300m is a lot more than needed for that, about 4.5% increase on overall college turnover. So a bigger % increase for colleges than schools

Sounds good in theory, as does £300 million for colleges, but is this just to cover the National Insurance hike? Will this extra money ever make it to the frontline?

Some haven't liked the term 'decimation' used by @Samfr- as he says it is accurate on 16-18 funding. But overall college income drop since 2010 is 3 times worse (30%) & for adults it is 6 times worse (60%). Not sure of the words for that - unbelievable? Criminal? #LoveOurColleges

To say post-16 education has been decimated is, if anything, an understatement, as this report explains. Govt education policy has been crackers for as long as I can remember. It's time to put education at the heart of the economy. If we don't, we'll all suffer...

Very proud of this blog from our director of programmes Deb Perry, delving into @BHASVIC's new co-chair model for board governance with help from the co-chairs themselves and @bhasvicteaching. Practical and inspiring. https://t.co/MpuLR4Ezm5

Big week for the Chancellor, hoping it might be a good week for colleges. After 14 tough years, they need something in the #Budget24 to show that the next decade will be about @hmtreasury investing for people, communities, fair economic growth

Lots of people talking about place at the moment. Here’s an example of ‘place’ being shaped for the better through civic leadership. Let’s do more of this. @nicoladnoble @LizzieRobinson3 @LeoraCruddas @SeanHarris_NE @VarndeanSJBaker @bhasvicteaching @CNCSMsJarman

Today, we launched a city-wide school-based counselling pilot which we fought for for over 18 months. 18 months of organising work to build enough power to get @BrightonHoveCC to put forward £200,000 so all secondary schools across the city can benefit from specialist support.

I think Brighton sold out first, didn’t it? Should we feel privileged to be The Rest Is Politics purists, with just Alistair and Rory, or should we be sulking about being left out from a visit by The Mooch and Katy K? #TRIPLIVE @campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK

Excellent article. 1. What will 150k students do without BTECs? 2. How will colleges afford pay rises without the funding schools get? Colleges close attainment gaps & deliver social mobility, plus the skills and professionals needed for economic recovery.
