The Constitution divides war powers. Congress has not authorized the commencement of acts of war in or against Iran, so it would be unlawful for the president to take military action. Neither the 2001 AUMF nor War Powers Resolution authorize even limited offensive strikes here.

A major underreported aspect of the Minneapolis raids is that DHS was targeting lawfully present refugees as part of the President's "revetting" demands, and what that looked like in practice was grabbing people and spiriting them to detention centers in Texas for interrogation.
One of the things Trump supporters haven't paid attention to is another way Kristi Noem and Greg Bovino have sabotaged the President's deportation efforts. They rounded up a bunch of people in Minnesota, threw them into detention facilities, and some had permission to be in the

"Federal agents" here refers to people who've been grabbing non-criminal aliens (some w/legal residency), battering down doors, damaging cars, harassing US citizens w/foreign accents, & threatening observers. And who shot a woman.
Alex Pretti was an anti-ICE fanatic who was reckless, violent, and driven by a (literally) spittle-flecked hatred of federal agents That he would, in short order, get into two of these kind of altercations while armed is absolutely insane It doesn’t change the analysis of the

It cannot be understated the extent to which ICE agents are grabbing random people and then figuring out whether they’re actually removable afterwards. Then the system is so overloaded because of this “arrest first, ask questions later” policy that people get stuck in ICE jail.
COMEDY OF ERRORS: On Jan. 12, ICE detained a Minnesota resident who had a rare "T visa" — for victims of severe human trafficking or those who aid law enforcement to thwart it even though he had legal status. -On Jan. 16, they urged the court to drop his case because he had

“At my direction” After two judges rejected DOJ efforts
At my direction, early this morning federal agents arrested Don Lemon, Trahern Jeen Crews, Georgia Fort, and Jamael Lydell Lundy, in connection with the coordinated attack on Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. More details soon.

This is bonkers. The Constitution exists to constrain the government. The people who enforce the law cannot discard it when they decide it’s inconvenient. https://t.co/tHjToxnMU3

UPDATE: Another judge in Minnesota, Reagan appointee David Doty, rules a detention by ICE illegal — and threatens contempt for a failure to return the man to Minnesota. https://t.co/WJJlgpv5yr

Wild that this isn’t a bigger story. ICE is in violation of almost *100* court orders—including denying bond hearings & imprisoning people illegally. If you care about the rule of law, then that should bother you.

Protests make MAGA mad. Journalism makes MAGA mad. Accountability makes MAGA mad. And the anger keeps building until a single sentence starts to spread across the length and breadth of Trump’s base: “Invoke the Insurrection Act.”

It's important for people to understand that Trump isn't just "enforcing the rule of law" in his immigration crackdown. They've detained and shackled people with legal status, including refugees, for no good reason. That's worth serious protest all on its own.
Federal judge in Minnesota issues blistering ruling to block Trump Admin. from detaining refugees awaiting resident status: "They are not committing crimes on our streets, nor did they illegally cross the border. Refugees have a legal right to be in the United States, a right

Here's the thing, Greg — free speech is still protected by the First Amendment under the Constitution. If you want folks to stop saying you're the secret police who are kidnapping and killing people, maybe stop acting like the secret police who are kidnapping and killing people.
Bovino: "When politicians, community leaders, & some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement calling law enforcement 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping,' that is a choice & there are actions &

Countless witnesses, video footage, sworn testimony, and court rulings say otherwise You should want the protection that our laws and Constitution provide - feels like you might need them someday
What vile, dangerous, disgusting lies. The only citizens being placed under arrest during enforcement operations are those commuting acts of terrorism and violence against ICE officers.

No one is protesting for "illegal criminal aliens," asshole. They may be protesting for the dad who has his door smashed with a battering ram because the thugs in charge decided that asylum seekers legally admitted under the last administration are "illegal."
Imagine being so brainwashed that you go gather with 10,000 other people in -30° temperatures to protest for illegal criminal aliens who hate you and would never protest for you.
