The Constitution divides war powers. Congress has not authorized the commencement of acts of war in or against Iran, so it would be unlawful for the president to take military action. Neither the 2001 AUMF nor War Powers Resolution authorize even limited offensive strikes here.

A major underreported aspect of the Minneapolis raids is that DHS was targeting lawfully present refugees as part of the President's "revetting" demands, and what that looked like in practice was grabbing people and spiriting them to detention centers in Texas for interrogation.

"Federal agents" here refers to people who've been grabbing non-criminal aliens (some w/legal residency), battering down doors, damaging cars, harassing US citizens w/foreign accents, & threatening observers. And who shot a woman.

It cannot be understated the extent to which ICE agents are grabbing random people and then figuring out whether they’re actually removable afterwards. Then the system is so overloaded because of this “arrest first, ask questions later” policy that people get stuck in ICE jail.

Wild that this isn’t a bigger story. ICE is in violation of almost *100* court orders—including denying bond hearings & imprisoning people illegally. If you care about the rule of law, then that should bother you.

Protests make MAGA mad. Journalism makes MAGA mad. Accountability makes MAGA mad. And the anger keeps building until a single sentence starts to spread across the length and breadth of Trump’s base: “Invoke the Insurrection Act.”

It's important for people to understand that Trump isn't just "enforcing the rule of law" in his immigration crackdown. They've detained and shackled people with legal status, including refugees, for no good reason. That's worth serious protest all on its own.
