My understanding is that the university/city/cops actually don't do anything when there are actual fire safety issues:

I should clarify something not exactly correct in my initial tweet. Ono currently does have tenure. However, his contract explicitly says he will lose his tenured position if he is fired for cause! So the logic I outline in the thread still follows.
Let’s start with Ono. He does not have a tenured position at U-M. The past U-M president (Schlissel) or recent Penn or Harvard presidents who were all let go, subsequently all returned to faculty at their respective institutions, Ono does not have that option. 2/n

In the exhibits below, either someone at UM copied the wording from Stanford, or the same entity provided the wording to both.
AIPAC delivers tool kits of talking points for Congressmembers to copy and paste. That's why we see so many statements with such similar phrasing.

I also hope (like MIT & others) we bring back the SAT/GREs. While not perfect, they're still informative and actually help diversify the student body. In their absence, admission committees rely on even less informative measures
I more or less agree with all of this, and I would add that it is this very rigidity that also makes most diversity statements so boring to read — many of them are as predictable in their moves as mass emails from the provost.
