My hope for anyone who chooses to follow me is that:
> You are on a journey that brings you joy
> You are investing in your health
> You understand your priorities and boundaries
> You are inspired to be your authentic self
> You never stop growing

The real secret to beating the market is trading on insider information and not pissing off anyone to get yourself thrown in jail.
For that, social skills are far more important than math skills.
It’s rude to ask guests to take off shoes in your house.
When you’re a guest, you should feel like you’re at home. I’ll clean up when you leave.
If you want to take your shoes off, that’s also ok but not necessary.
Had a good time grabbing dinner with
@ZubyMusic
last night. He’s exactly what you’d expect.
Kind, smart, dedicated, humble and amazing.
Thanks for sharing your time.
I'm living totally debt free.
> No mortgage / rent
> No car payments
> No credit card debt
> No debt with
@beardbrand
But this goal started 17 years ago and involved a lot of pain.
Today's success is yesterday's sacrifices.
@TrungTPhan
My speculation, a normal bank would be required to report transactions happening with the depositors.
By Sam buying the bank, they can essentially forget to report the transactions they're making. Thus doing some illicit things with their capital.
How about instead of secession, we have this:
A union of 50 independent nation states, with a small organization that helps make sure we play nice together.
We could shorten “nation state” to just “state” and call it the United States of America.
Ten things I wish I knew when starting my Ecommerce business.
1. Focus on the products that are easiest to sell and most profitable. Don’t get distracted building a portfolio of products that don’t perform.
2. Don’t go international until you’ve saturated your local market.
My story is an example why it's a great time to be alive.
> Started online business with $30
> In 8 years, we're multi-million with 15 team members
> No VC's, No Debt
> Did this despite $60k+ in medical expenses
Couldn't do this even 15 years ago.
I just turned 40.
The 30's was my best decade so far.
> Celebrated 15 years of marriage
> Had 2 children
> Built a multi-million dollar business
> Was on national TV several times
> Paid off all debt
> Faster rower than when in college
Can't wait to see what the 40's bring.
If you bitch about how rich people donate money, you've got an entitlement mentality.
It's their money, they can put it where they want.
Too many people think they deserve other people's money.
Appreciate what you have & do, and don't worry about what others have or do.
I'll tell you.
The general population has no appreciation as to how hard starting and running a successful bootstrapped business is.
To all my bootstrapped friends: Y'all are badasses.
I’ve been skipping workouts. Today’s the first workout in about two weeks.
This year has been a grind.
• Getting sued
• Business down 40%
• Parenting challenges
• and my A/C going out seemed to be the cherry on top
I know it’s a meme, but I’m still in the arena. I’m…
I owe a majority of the success I've had to rich people.
Rich people invested in
@shopify
which allowed me to launch an ecommerce store for $30 instead of $30k. Also
@YouTube
which helped us sell products.
Thanks to wealthy who create opportunities for people like me.
Got a lot of sales reps contacting you?
Setup an flow to direct them to a page to get access to your time.
Filter new emails:
"phone call" "hop on a call" "give you a call" etc.
When building a business ask yourself which of these businesses would you prefer to own?
• $4mil rev w/ 25% profit
• $5mil rev w/ 20% profit
• $10mil rev w/ 10% profit
• $20mil rev w/ 5% profit
Same outcome. No right or wrong, but need different strategies and management.
The best time to:
> Get in shape
> Start a business
> Start a YouTube channel
> Plant a tree
> Fix your marriage
Was five years ago.
The second best time is today.
A private company has figured out how to build reusable rockets.
A private company can sure as hell figure out how to build roads.
Government is far more useless than most people realize.
The thoughts of an entrepreneur:
1. Oh we just blew a thousand bucks on ads that didn’t work, no big deal.
2. Damn, that side of guacamole costs $.50 more than most places. I’m gonna pass on it.
@dadtellsjokes
@beardbrand
Here's my dad joke for you:
I didn't want to believe my dad was stealing from his job as a roadworker, but when I got home all the signs were there.
👷
Friendly reminder:
You can be friends with those who you disagree.
My wife and I sit at opposite ends on the political spectrum AND have different religious views.
Happily married for 14+ years.
It all starts with respect.
Here’s the truth guys.
The things you can control are far more important for being attractive than the things you can’t control.
I’m talking:
• Fitness and body weight
• Grooming choices
• Style choices
• How you smell
• etc..
Stop focusing on things you can’t control.
Alright we’re doing this.
At
@beardbrand
we are rolling out 4 day work weeks. Four 8 hour days. Testing for a quarter and started this week.
To pull it off we gotta prioritize and execute.

Stop consuming politics porn.
It’s:
> polluting your brain
> causing you to hate half of your peers
> taking away creative energy
> sucking your time (which is your number one most valuable asset)
You’re wasting your life when you follow politics.
About 10 years ago my friend served me a french press coffee with absolutely no cream or sugar.
The idea of having coffee without those things blew my mind, and frankly I was a little offended.
Fast forward a decade and the idea of cream & sugar in my coffee offends me.
I've built a bootstrapped business that is doing close to 8 figures annually.
We have zero debt, zero outside investors, and only work to serve our customers.
Here's my number 1 tip to the success:
Surround yourself with brilliant minds.

“Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit.” -Wikipedia
State owned things aren’t private and calling it “state capitalism” doesn’t make it capitalism.
The best way to build an Ecommerce business is to bootstrap with a multi-decade vision.
Here’s why:
1) You get to spend all your energy focusing on customers and their needs.
No financial reports for investors, no pitches, and less complex accounting and legal structure.
I’m starting to think obesity is contagious.
The more you see obese people, the more it’s normalized.
The more obese people eat at unhealthy restaurants, the more restaurants will cater to them; the less healthy options there will be.
First observations of not having a beard.
1. I look weird.
2. My chin is tiny.
3. I can feel my breath on my chin. It’s weird.
4. Shower water hitting my face was weird.
5. I can now make funnier faces.
6. Shaving sucks.
7. I habitually stroke my beard and it’s not there.
Working from home now?
Don't forget the importance of your morning ritual to get you going.
1. Shower & Groom (with Beardbrand of course)
2. Get dressed
3. Eat
4. Crush the day
Don't lollygag in the morning and work in your pajamas until 3pm.
Let me tell you.
It's so nice having a business independent of Amazon.
Thanks to
@Shopify
,
@klaviyo
,
@gorgiasio
and all the other companies that help us maintain our independence.
As insensitive as it sounds, a recession is like clearing the weeds.
It allows great companies to flourish and the bad companies go out of business.
It’s vital companies fail.
Also along those lines, find ways to support the companies you love so they can survive.
@noahkagan
@Ed34151
People shitting on you for donating $5k in a way they don't like; meanwhile all they're doing is bitching on Twitter.
Hat tip to you Noah for your charitable contribution. I know this is the least of what you do to make society better.
For the first time since August of 2021, we finally have a month that was better than the previous year's month.
Man, it's been a long challenging ride.
This is the holy grail of ecommerce businesses:
1. Large untapped customer niche
2. Small, lightweight, consumable product
3. COGS under 20%
4. Product not banned from advertising channels
5. AOV $75 - $125
Don't be afraid to change your internet habits. After many years, I made these switches and prefer the experience.
I've killed Facebook, Reddit, Chrome & Google.
Now I just use:
Social media:
@Twitter
Browser:
@firefox
Search Engine:
@DuckDuckGo
I'm a big fan of families & believe strongly that dads have an important part in a child's life.
It's not always happy faces and those struggles build a stronger family.
I'm not the best dad, but I'm the best dad for my kids.
A reminder for those struggling with fatherhood. ❤️
I was a wantreprenuer for 10 years before finding success with
@Beardbrand
.
Here’s what I wish I knew 10 years earlier.
1. Consuming educational content is no replacement for doing.
A few books is all you need to start. Lean Startup, 4 Hour Workweek and Eat People were mine
If you give up after a month, you'll never know how amazing you might be at something.
Sucking for long periods of time is part of the process of becoming awesome.
Next month my wife and I will celebrate 15 years together.
We differ on probably 80-90% of political views.
It doesn’t stop us from loving and respecting each other.
Please find love in your heart to respect and be considerate to those with different outlooks on the world.
According to customers, this how they first heard about
@Beardbrand
.
YouTube Videos- 36%
Word of Mouth - 18%

It's easier to be sustainable when you can get customers at low or no cost.
I can't say this enough.
If you don't invest in yourself, you'll have far less abilities to invest in others.
Please focus on your mental health, your physical health, your spiritual health, and your financial health.
It's time to stop labeling poor & rich people by their money.
Instead a poor person is one who has a victim mentality and doesn't think they have control of their lives.
A rich person is one who sees abundance in the world and focuses on bringing value to others.
After two months, this video we made had pretty much gotten all the views it was going to get.
But I knew it was a good video and should be doing better.
So I changed the title and thumbnail and it exploded. Here's the lesson.
Ecommerce owners mind:
Nov 1st: Oh damn I’m overstocked on inventory
BF / CM: I’m so amazing at business
Dec 14th: Oh shit, I don’t have enough inventory
Dec 17th: I think I can continue this volume into next year
Dec 21st: ugh, it’s over. Guess it’s time to push gift cards
@huntercdurham
Fuck man, sorry to hear about what you're going through. Everyone is quick to share their wins but it takes a very special person to share when things are at their darkest.
My finance motto is opposite of Wal-Mart's.
BUY LESS, PAY MORE.
Basically, keep your budget the same but buy fewer NICE things.
> You preserve your wealth better
> You enjoy finer things in life
> Your things hold their value longer
> You accumulate less clutter
Here are 10 things I wish I knew when I graduated college.
1. No one will create a roadmap for your life. You must have a personal vision.
2. Networking and hyper-targeted job applications is a far better strategy than just sending resumes and pasting cover letters everywhere.
You damn right I’m building an echo chamber.
It’s one of:
> Love
> Hard work
> Support
> Honest feedback
> Humor
> Learning
> Healthy habits
> Tolerance
> Respectful communication
I’m blocking the opposite of these from my life.
@kevinleeme
For working through financial drama:
> Have three bank accounts.
> > A joint account to pay family expenses
> > Two personal accounts to spend whatever we want on
For building wealth:
> Living below means
> Paying off debts quickly
> Starting a company
I think that
@elonmusk
becoming the largest share holder of
@Twitter
will mark the beginning of the end for woke culture.
We are now on a pathway back to traditional American values of freedom, tolerance of dissenting ideas, and celebration of our differences.
Well, it's finally happened. We're getting sued in NY over ADA compliance on our website.
I want to fight it.
Anyone recommend some good lawyers who love a good fight?
Weight lifting in your 40’s is the best.
🏋️ you lift for form and strength, not ego
🙇♂️ it minimizes or eliminates those nagging joint and back pains
🍆💦 helps offset your natural drop in testosterone
👀 and you’ll get a body that’s easy on the eyes
The seven facts about entrepreneurship that grifters seem to ignore:
1. You will get sued.
2. People will steal from you.
3. The stress will affect your health.
4. There will be times where you lose money.
5. Key team members will leave without adequate notice.
6. You are…
After 8 years of creating videos on YouTube, we finally have one that I can consider legit "viral."
850k views in 4.5 days.
It's unreal the power of that platform.
