Very poignant day for me; as a 35 year old walking into Head of RTE Radio job Sept 1997 I was handed a letter from the out-going Minister to set up a new classical music station. On May 1 1999 we launched a beautiful new radio baby - and so happy to celebrate its 25th year today.

My mother Rose had six children. All of us born in the Rotunda Hospital between 1940s to 1960s. I was a '60s baby. She always told us she picked the Rotunda because it was the 'Protestant' hospital and would, she believed, save the mother before the baby.

I started my radio life as a producer with Marian Finucane and Liveline, in the late 80s, during a time when that show, through her voice and skill, put its finger on the pulse of a changing ireland. She was a natural queen of radio, and unbelievably sad to hear she has died.

Would ask that people are a bit more considerate about how they tweet and talk about nursing homes post covid19. Many of us had no alternative but to use full time care for elderly parents, particularly with dementia, and for those grieving it's quite a difficult time.

I'm afraid this is simply not true - as head of RTE Radio at the time we made the decision - there were three cities shortlisted - Kilkenny was one - but the building and support offer of Limerick won out. I want RTE lyric fm to stay in Limerick but Cabinet did not dictate it.
