Globalization, Populism & Collapse in the Bronze Age v Now, my professorial lecture from 2018. Would we have iPhones if the Bronze Agr didn’t collapse? Think about it

I’m an American in Melbourne Australia. Knew nothing about Ukraine till the invasion. I wear pro-Ukraine clothes everyday, read your history, speeches of Zelensky. Work in the Med, never been to E Europe. It’s now my dream to visit Ukraine 🇺🇦 Слава Україні!
I’m with Jori: Let's get

I’ve also spent a quarter (maybe more) of my life living abroad. I feel like Ukraine represents more of a beacon of freedom than the US.
Just participated in an oral defence for a truly excellent PhD student at the University of Arizona, the world can soon welcome one more Aegean archaeologist/art historian into the field.
In 2015, a husband-and-wife team made a staggering discovery in an abandoned Greek olive grove: an ancient tomb filled with the kind of treasure that archaeologists only dream of.
The brand new Secrets: Griffin Warrior airs Monday at 8 PM.

During revolution: Ukraine’s past is Classics Hellenic prologue

The fake support of Republicans for the police who they turned a blind eye to when the mob was beating them is just another example of GOP rot & corruption
The year of living surgically. I’m still recovering from the 2 knee replacements & today I had the first of 2 cataract surgeries. Figured I might as well since I have them & I’m not teaching. Surgeon says it went well. I’ll know for sure when the patch comes off. Aaaaargh! 🏴☠️

Why wasn’t the money spent on missiles, spent on making peoples’ lives better? I’ve seen this scenario played out over & over in my life. Each time, people are left worse off. Palestinians need a Gandhi or a Zelensky, not Hamas or Hezbollah.

is trending. Seems like a good time to show a photo of one of the three unique Minoan water features at the “palace” at Kato Zakro in eastern Crete (if you look closely, you can see the turtles)
Some of you know I've been on blood thinners for 5 months now because of pulmonary embolisms. I had a lung function test last week & my lungs are functioning at over 100 per cent. This is a return to normal for me & I am very relieved.

Given the discussions I’ve had with a couple of them, they seem to think gender identity is a recent fad or phenomenon & have no clue about archaeology
Just finished drafting my

paper on teaching Black Athena & the Incredible Whiteness of Being. I got this autograph when my Mycenaean Archaeology Professor, Richard Janko, invited me to join them for coffee.
Ok, I’ll speak my mind; Western Civilization is a construct that wouldn’t exist without the technological & social innovations from the ancient Near East, the Aegean, & Egypt
"The spirit of Western civilisation is the spirit of inquiry ... Nothing is to remain undiscussed. Everybody is to speak [their] mind. No proposition is to be left unexamined".
Robert M. Hutchins, The Tradition of the West.
Waiting for my knee replacement & my paper: “in a State of Suspenseful Animation: Let’s Party Like It's 1199", got accepted in Laura Pisanu ‘s brilliant ASOR session
My copy of Ancient History Magazine arrived today: it has a great article on globalization in the Aegean Bronze Age in it by this person named Hitchcock
The evolution of cuneiform from drawn pictographs to impressed signs.
The later version of the sign for “eat” is lovely. It’s the sign for mouth (KA) adjustied slightly to fit the sign for bread or food (NINDA) inside it.
It's really easy: make sure classicists study Bronze Age languages and cultures of the Near East and their contribution, and teach about blacks in antiquity. De-center classics by renaming programs to include the entire Mediterranean....
@NOELreports
Congratulations & thanks for your updates. I’m an American living in Australia & Zelensky & the Ukrainian people are my heroes. You’ve given us something I thought we had lost. Слава Україні!
Usually anesthesia gives nice peaceful dreams. This time they were vivid & involved arguing with couple archaeologists in the field, but I don’t remember who or what we discussed. Main thing is I’m all clear. Going to doctors isn’t about being sick, it’s about prevention

My op-ed in the WSJ as I travel to Vilnius for the NATO summit. So are President Biden and many other national leaders. My messages: Ukraine is already fighting the war NATO was created to fight. While Biden & the rest delay, innocent Ukrainians die.
The guy taking the photos wanted pictures of all 3 layers I was wearing which included Servant of the People & Kyrylo Budanov. As a t shirt geek, this made my day. And, everyone had Azov metal bracelets

The NAP makes it simple. Bentham's utilitarianism has always been disturbing to me as has Burke's conservativism. I'm pro freedom of religion, & have Muslim friends, but if Muslims want to live in the west, they must show the same tolerance they want.
It looks like I'll be spending my sabbatical next year in Israel, at the Albright Institute in Jerusalem. Can't wait to see everyone & achieve some productive work.
Today was my first mammogram in 2 years, & it was normal. These things are always a bit scary, but the doctor was happy & doesn't need to see me again for 2 years.
The ancient Greek historian Herodotus, known as "The Father of History," tells us how the Scythians took cannabis vapor baths. "They shrieked and howled with laughter."

When I worked in my first campaign in 1968 at age 12, I was told I could be a poll watcher. I did it & for years I thought it was just something they gave me to do because I was a kid. In 2020, I learned it was a great responsibility & learning experience.
Fly tomorrow to Dunedin New Zealand to give my paper on Black Athena: Decolonization, Western Civilization, & the Incredible Whiteness of Being at: Australasian Society for Classical Studies Meeting

Tell Russia to withdraw & there will be peace. If Russia stops fighting & withdraws there will be no war, if Ukraine stops fighting there will be no Ukraine
I'm pleased to announce this special issue of the Journal of Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology and Heritage Studies on the theme of the Entangled Sea, edited by Ina Berg & funded by the Melbourne-Manchester research fund.
And, is available on JSTOR:
1) An ancient Roman-dinosaur-monster-bones thread! Yes you read that right - did you know the Romans were keen fossil hunters, fascinated by the bones of ancient "monsters". Augustus liked to decorate his holiday-villa "not so much with statues and pictures but with..."

I have been down for several months & depression has been impacting my research, however a bright spot is that today I have received my NAFO Fella avatar & I’m officially a recognized member of NAFO-OFAN.
