Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that predominantly affects people with an African or Caribbean family background. 🩸 There's a need for more blood donors, especially from these communities, to help provide matches for patients receiving transfusions. (3/3).

We also want to thank patient Shana-Kay for allowing us to share this photo of her receiving an exchange transfusion – a vital part of care for some patients with sickle cell disease. The machine removes sickled red blood cells and replaces them with healthy donor cells. (2/3).
