Jenny's paper is now out, along with Cheng's paper: https://t.co/PprZciASuC

Nature - A neural circuit for implementing a coordinate transformation and 2D vector computation is described in Drosophila.
I think Jenny's data and experiments have lots of interesting avenues to explore, and it's disappointing to instead see that they're padded by a bunch of uninspired modeling. No doubt the decision to format the work as it has been is career-oriented rather than science-oriented.

In our paper, we found flies combine odometry & compass navigation to keep track of their position relative to food. This work provides an experimental setup & theoretical framework to study the neural basis of path integration. @ehopepalmer #Drosophila

Have you ever wondered how your peers are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? In our study, a majority of 740 researchers in North America and Europe reported reduced productivity, internal pressure to progress, and increased workload. What has your experience been like?

How do animals avoid getting lost when exploring an environment in complete darkness? By combining computational modeling and experiments in a specialized arena, we found that fruit flies perform local search by carefully measuring how far they walk.

The ability to keep track of one ’ s location in space is a critical behavior for animals navigating to and from a salient location, but its computational basis remains unknown. Here, we tracked...

Caltech supports the action taken by Harvard and MIT to seek a restraining order to halt the immediate implementation of the rule—the Institute is filing an amicus brief in support of the lawsuit. We are also exploring other potential courses of action the Institute might take.

In light of the recent EO and policy regarding the limitations on visas, we wrote a letter to Nature. We urge the US to safeguard international postdocs and grad students to reinforce mutual benefits. @caro_charp @Allan_HPool @StewMallory @liviahmorais

A 2+ hour discussion attended by over 900 members of the @Caltech community. I am blown away by the effort and amount of work a handful of Black Graduate Students put together for this town hall, when it SHOULD NOT be their responsibility to do so. #StepUpCaltech #DoBetter
hey academics: watch @Caltech closely over the coming weeks and months. today, the Black Scientists and Engineers at Caltech (BSEC) gave an incredibly well-researched list of concrete actions to combat anti-Black racism at Caltech (1/2)

Here is a link to the short piece that my colleagues (@caro_charp @Allan_HPool @liviahmorais @StewMallory Adrian Brückner , Arslan Ahmed) and I wrote about postdocs
To protect the future and diversity of the scientific pipeline, a new #LetterToScience argues that institutions should implement programs to prolong fellowship positions, and vigorously advocate for federal-level extensions to visa programs.
