Human fibromyalgia patient microbiome driving mouse pain, immune and metabolic phenotypes. Neat characterization of candidate mechanisms underlying a complex pain condition from @AKhoutorsky lab.
Excited to share our latest research, led by @Weihua1990, in collaboration with @AmirMinerbi, @GonzalezEmBio, @King_Lab_McGill and many others. The gut microbiota promotes pain in fibromyalgia: Neuron

Very neat use of the whole brain cell-type atlases to uncover candidate disease relevant neural classes.
We are thrilled to share this work linking specific human brain cell types to psychiatric and neurological disorders, out now in @NatureNeuro See below for an overview and thanks to the amazing Tayden Li, @willgiardino, @deissero, and so many others!

The plot thickens for PAG based opioid pain relief. Impressive tour de force by Corder lab (@FlyBottleEscape) clarifying key cellular players and uncovering disturbingly complex opioid dynamics in pain and pain relief states.
1/ 🧠 Excited to share our new preprint:. Convergent state-control of endogenous opioid analgesia. We uncover how cognitive + contextual factors—like injury, fear, and placebo—modulate pain through dynamic opioid signaling in the periaqueductal gray (PAG).

The irony was not lost on this reader of the @TheEconomist that one of their earliest attempts to automate away their superb voice actors generating their audio edition was a piece on how humans should not worry about being replaced by AI. Loved the enunciation of punctuation.

Fantastic work from my wonderful colleague @ttwang0908 showing how the sympathetic system imposes organ specific control over visceral function.
Super excited to share that my thesis work is out @Nature today. How does brain control visceral organs through brain-to-body sympathetic signals? 👇 .Best Thanksgiving gift! Very grateful for my amazing advisor, colleagues and collaborators.

Celebrating 33 years of restoration of Estonia's Independence🇪🇪🎇. Things looked not as promising watching a column of russian tanks plow past my childhood home in 1991. Palju õnne, Eesti!.
#OTD 3⃣3⃣ years ago - after half a century of Soviet occupation - #Estonia 🇪🇪 regained its independence, giving us a chance to rebuild our country based on the values of freedom, democracy & the rule of law. Long live, dear Estonia! 💙🖤🤍

Glad to see the human primary DRG CRISPR-editing approach out from Seph, @_KatherinG18 and Patwardhan / @UTDPainLabs! Robust and efficient way to modulate human primary sensory neurons.
@_KatherinG18, Seph and @JulietMwirigi working together with Amol Patwardhan and our @SWTransplant partners figured out how to #CRISPR edit primary human DRG neurons with lipid-based plasmid delivery. Check it out! @UTDResearch @UTDPainCenter @UTSWBrain.

The pain negative valence circuit downstream amygdala gets mapped out - excellent cell-type resolved approach from the Corder (@FlyBottleEscape) lab!.
⚡️🧠Thrilled to share our new preprint on pain-related valence cell-types + circuits — A nociceptive amygdala-striatal pathway for chronic pain aversion. Check out the stellar work of Jessica Wojick, in a co-senior collab with @KorbLab . THREAD 1/13.
